It wasn't until the next day that I took Gambit outside of the colony of which we made our home; making sure she was well prepared for the harsh winter storm before leaving with her on my shoulders. As I crunched through the snow beneath, she asked with chattering teeth, "Where are we going, papa?" "You'll see when we get there. Just be patient sweetheart." I replied, nervous about what I was about to do as my stomach tightened. It wasn't long until we came upon a burnt, cone like structure- one that stood as a symbol of who I used to be before Uzi came into my life.... A terrible reminder of the monster within me.... And now it was time Gambit knew of this symbol, and that monster- driving me absolutely crazy as I played scenario after scenario in my head! I walked into the cone structure, and sat before a charred hunk of metal before setting Gam down beside me as I tucked my tail into my lap and looked around. "Where are we?" Gambit asked, looking around the structure before adding, "And why does it smell so bad!" I sighed, trying to find the right words in my mind that won't drive my little girl away as I began, "Gambit, I'm going to tell you something REALLY important, and I want you to listen, and promise me that, no matter what, what I tell you won't change you." Concerned and confused, Gambit crossed her heart and I sighed again as I looked to the ground in guilt and shame. "A long time ago, back on a planet called "Earth", Worker Drones were being mass-produced and shipped everywhere by a company known as "JC Jenson- In Spaaaaaaaace". We helped to further the research on planets that were habitable, and mine minerals that Earth would define as useful." "Wooooow!" Gambit breathed, eyes twinkling in awe as she drew closer to me. "It was cool for those who WEREN'T decommissioned..... Myself, your aunt V, and another Drone named J were found by a girl named Tessa." "Was Tessa a pretty Drone?" "Oh, no. Tessa was a human, but unlike others, she was kind and gentle. She repaired the three of us, and others who she felt she could give a second chance and purpose to, but she was closer to the three of us more than anything; reciprocating back, we served her and her folks. Her folks were vile, cruel people, and would mortally wound Drones they didn't like, or simply berate them when they made a mistake!" "How awful..." "I followed the rules, and when I was instructed an order, I obeyed. I was probably the only lively one in the entire building for that matter, and I just wanted to make the most of what I had! It made me happy, serving a very close friend. One day she came back from the graveyard, and behind her was a Drone she only half managed to fix: Cyn... Only I was the one who felt a tad off about Cyn upon our meeting, but like V and J, I grew to like her as well. Cyn was so small and precious, and I loved her like a sister! Little did I know that heart of mine would be my downfall, as Cyn turned out to be a blood thirsty eldritch monster that destroyed, and killed anything beautiful and alive." Gambit gasped as I went on, "She took us all, one by one, and used a virus called the "Absolute Solver" to transform us into these twisted, monstrous beings designed to kill.... The Disassembly Drones, were what she named us..... She implanted orders into our heads under the guise of the parent company, and we committed atrocities too terrible to speak about! She sent myself, V, and J here to Copper Nine to destroy the life living within, but little did we know the humans living here had wiped out themselves... Or so we thought.... They experimented on Drones, using the same exact virus Cyn had, and producing only the same effects as Cyn tried to take over their bodies from a distance! Your grandma on you mom's side, Nori, was amongst the ones infected, but used the crucifix patch to naturalize the virus within, not knowing that it was now hereditary. Your mom became infected with the same virus, only she managed to control her's and used it to defeat Cyn once and for all, leaving her barren, and unable to pass the gene at ALL! I guess you could say her and Cyn became, in a sense, one and the same, but that's getting too far ahead... Cyn then directed orders to eliminate what was left of the life inhabiting Copper Nine, so we turned to the Drones that picked up where humans left off, and, well...." I looked up at the charred wall before me as I finished, "We made this spire from the corpses of the ones we managed to kill..... Now you know the truth, Gammy.... Now you see why we are hated, abused, persecuted-" I couldn't go on... I felt too guilty about what had just transpired, and the events that transpired then! I looked over to see how Gambit was doing, feeling for certain she'd push us all away, but instead of being fearful she seemed quite.... Understanding... "Papa, it's like you've told me once before!" She began, climbing into my lap, and catching me off gaurd as she continued, "We all make mistakes. You made a big mistake, but you learned from it and now you don't do the mean things you used to do! A-And I've made mistakes, but you and Mhamaí still love me, so I love you too even if you made mistakes. That's what family is, right?" She asked, hugging me tightly. I didn't know how to feel as I wiped tears from my eyes, and returned her hug gently as I replied, "That's right, Gambit. We never single anyone out for the mistakes we make, and we don't love them any less when they do." We sat there in the spire for a little while longer before heading back to the colony, and I felt a huge weight lifted off of me as I smiled wide. It felt good to finally talk about it, even if it was with someone who was too young to understand what we went through then, the fact I wasn't ridiculed made me feel happy inside. Knowing that Gambit wasn't indifferent to us now that I've told her, made me feel happy inside! That night was about a lot of reflection as we decided what would be best from here on out, and we ultimately decided that V would teach her at the home unit, and we could drop her off for Ballet the same hour she would usually go.
