ESTELLE ARZHEL'S POV•

The examination room felt sterile and bright, the walls painted a calming shade of pale blue that did little to ease my nerves. I sat on the edge of the examination table, the paper crinkling beneath me, and watched as the nurse prepared the equipment. The beeping of machines filled the silence, a constant reminder of the moment's seriousness.

“He seems protective over you” The nurse’s voice broke through my thoughts, warm and reassuring. She smiled at me, her eyes crinkling at the corners. “I’m going to check your vitals first. Just a quick routine, okay?”

I nodded, trying to calm the flutter of anxiety in my stomach. She approached with a cuff thingy, wrapping it around my arm. I felt the pressure tighten, then release, the machine humming softly beside us. “You’re doing great,” she said, glancing at the monitor. “Just a little more pressure. Almost done.”

The nurse finished with my vitals and moved aside, allowing the doctor to step closer. “Have you ever had this test done before?”

I shook my head, feeling a mix of fear and dread. “N-oo, I-I hav-en’t.”

“This test will let us know who your parents are. With that, we could your father, so that he could take your custody”

I know Sir and Ma’am are not my parents, as they reminded me of the fact many times. Would be good to know who my actual parents are.

“It’s pretty simple,” the doctor continued, pulling out a small kit. “We’ll just collect a sample. It might feel a little strange, but it won’t hurt, I promise.” He looked me in the eye, his gaze reassuring.

As he prepared the swab, I took a deep breath. I tried to focus on the soft rustle of the nurse’s movements behind me, the distant sounds of the hospital outside the room.

“Okay, here we go,” the doctor said, approaching with the swab. “Just a quick swab of the inside of your cheek.”

I felt the cool tip brush against my skin, and I instinctively flinched. “S-sorry!” I blurted out.

“No need to apologize! Just a little tickle,” he replied, a smile spreading across his face. “And done!”

I exhaled, relief washing over me.

At that exact moment, the face-stealer enters the room, with another person behind him holding a bundle of blankets?

I noticed the other person scanning the area. Suddenly, his eyes landed on me, and I could feel his gaze locking onto mine. He bears a striking resemblance to me. His violet eyes and hair mirror my own, although he appears slightly older. Maybe he is the face-stealer’s father?

We stare at each other for a few moments and his eyes become glassy with tears starting to form.

He gently passes the bundle of blankets to the face-stealer before leisurely making his way over to where I stand. I find myself rooted to the spot, unable to move as he comes to a halt in front of me, carefully studying my face.

Unlike other people, his and the face stealer’s presence doesn’t alarm or repulse me. It feels……. warm? I feel some sort of connection towards them.

I sigh at my thoughts. Sir must’ve hit my head hard during the last punishment.

I find myself questioning my sanity as I struggle to comprehend why I'm so bothered by the uncanny resemblance between these people and myself. My thoughts are interrupted by the sound of the Face-stealer clearing his throat.

"When will the report be ready, doctor?" he asks with a cold edge to his tone.

"In about an hour or so," the doctor replies.
