Poseidon, God of the seas and earthquakes; the great lord of the ocean. Bearer of the trident with which, by simply plunging it into the ground, he would be able to provoke chaotic springs, sinkings and shipwrecks. Humans purified their filthy mouths by shouting his name to the four winds; for without his water, life could not exist.

Few people know that Poseidon's heart is as salty as the water that claims to have given life to the living beings on this earth. The god of the sea is nothing more than a soul blackened by the salt that surrounds him, leaving his mouth dry and the wounds on his skin burning to the point of wanting to tear off his own flesh with his nails.

And Poseidon doesn't understand. He doesn't understand why his soul twists inside his body. Why, at night, he clenches his teeth and can't sleep. Perhaps it is nothing more than punishment for the evil deeds he had known. Karma, humans would call it. Fate, he calls it.

Poseidon rarely leaves his abode at the bottom of the sea, where he resides with his wife Amphitrite and his children. But, when his feet touch the sand, Poseidon turns around and, as always, sees the dark night sky making a thin line on the horizon with his sea. It seemed like his sea and Y/N's dark sky were kissing. It was so beautiful that, for a moment, Poseidon did not feel how the salt of his soul was causing him more wounds.

"I'm here," Poseidon says as he crosses the entrance to Olympus, celebrating the birth of a son by his brother Zeus. And that's when the god of the sea meets their gaze; the deity of the night sky.

Poseidon knows that humans call them Nyx, but they have the wrong image and name for them. Y/N is their name, and Poseidon wonders if, like him, they would think it is beautiful how the sea and sky touch.

His feet lead him to the God, and a tentative smile appears on the sea lord's stoic face. "Long time no see, Y/N." Poseidon murmurs, bowing his head slightly before them.

If only they knew they could sweeten his salty soul and make his wounds stop stinging.

Y/N beams, their face sculpted of starry nights and honey — graced with brightness from their lovely smile. Poseidon smiles right back, his face warming up at their reaction to seeing him.

"How have you been?" He asks, his fingers fiddling with the hem of his clothes as he looks Y/N up and down, taking in their form, which he hasn't seen in quite a long time. His gaze lands on their hair, stars decorate a few strands, glowing, ethereal. A crescent shaped clip pulls back some of their locks. It flows like a mirage, or ever like the tide.

How beautiful.

"I'm well, and you?" Y/N asks in their silky voice, as flowing and lovely as the domain of which they rule. Poseidon stares at their hair for a few seconds longer than he should, taking in the delicate way in which it is adorned. His fingers twitch a little in the air, as if desperate to touch one of those strands of hair and feel it run between his fingers.

He mentally chides himself for that absurd thought and tries to refocus on what he was trying to say when Y/N asked him that question.

"I've been good." He replies casually, folding his arms across his chest. "Same as usual." Y/N titters in response;

"Isn't that wonderful?" They grin. Poseidon's eyes rest on Y/N's smiling face, an involuntary smile appearing on his own lips. He can't help but think of how beautiful they look when they laugh. He almost wants them to do it more; so that he can keep staring at them. The sea god's hands are now closed in fists at his sides.
