The world of skating could be the cruelest place a girl's ever known. At least to Aspen Knies it was. Aspen was introduced to the world of skating from the minute she was able to walk without support from either of her parents. Her dad had put her into hockey alongside her older brother, Phil, and younger brother, Matthew. Even if it wasn't such a popular sport in the state of Arizona. Aspen never really cared for the sport, seeing as it was mainly a free way for both of her brothers to attack her without getting in trouble for it. The gear the sport required was also too heavy for Aspen to even wear seeing as she was always the goalie.

Miroslav seeing that his daughter wasn't at all interested in the sport, still noticed that she had potential of being a star on the ice. Whenever the kids would take breaks in between playing hockey games, Aspen would wander off and try out tricks she'd see on television. After a year of Aspen attempting to like hockey ❪ and failing miserably, ❫ she decides to call it quits on the sports. That's when the idea of putting her into figure skating hit her father. She was already a skating prodigy and figure skating was basically the same as hockey minus the sticks, pucks, fighting, etc obviously.

After weeks of trying to convince Aspen to at least give figure skating a try, eight year old Aspen decides to finally give the sport a try. Two weeks into it, she had fallen in love with it. Aspen enjoyed doing random tricks all over the ice. It was also more peaceful seeing as she wasn't getting body slammed into walls anytime she was skating ❪ thanks to Phil and Matthew, ❫ which meant no more random bruises, thankfully. It was supposed to be just an after school sport, not a daily, competitive thing Aspen would do. Unfortunately for her parents, she had been so in love with the sport it had become almost her whole life.

The sport was complicated sure, Aspen knew it was. She had her days where she would come home from the rink in stress because of some spins she couldn't do to finish her routines. Figure skating had always been one of her favorite things, until it wasn't. Aspen was seventeen when she was in a figure skating competition in Denver, she had been in the middle of a double axel spin before collapsing on the ice after landing. Being escorted off the ice and rushed to the hospital was one of the most horrifying things for her. Aspen had silently prayed that it wasn't anything serious but unfortunately luck wasn't on her side that night.
