i. unlucky for some, fortunate for others

THE REAL TRAVESTY WAS THAT Keely-Rome Darcy was poetry, and Gilderoy Lockhart couldn't read. Or at least, that's what Pandora was saying at present.

They lounged in the Rosier's garden, the sun kissing their blonde hair. From afar, Pandora and Keely looked like they could pass for twins. However, it wasn't any better up close: it was commonplace that they would be reminded how alike their features were.

And they acted like blood sisters, so the accusations weren't too airy fairy.

It was late August, and as usual, the Rosiers planned to host the first ball of the year, a back-to-school fling of sorts. Of course, the girls knew it was a hoax, a medium for their parents to brag about their success from the previous year, or to arrange marriages...

The ball season was unlucky for some, fortunate for others. More than anything, it was unlucky for Keely. The filthy purebloods, as she loved to call them behind their backs and in front of them too, loathed her.

They found immense pleasure in reminding her of her place within their hierarchy. One thing was for sure; Hogwarts politics never ended.

"You should sit with us," Pandora mused looking down at her best friend, who's head was rested gently in her lap. "At school, I mean. At the Slytherin table. I've convinced Xeno to join, so there's no reason for you to sit anywhere else."

Keely groaned, rubbing her temple.

"I know, I know. My brother and his stupid little bestie are fucking annoying, and you'd rather eat slugs. But honestly, babe! Ev misses you."

It was no secret that Evan Rosier hated Gilderoy Lockhart. He hated that his second sister (honorary, but still) was dating the git for any time at all. The fact drove a little wedge between him and Keely.

She sat with Gilderoy every day of her Hogwarts life, and he glared daggers at the Ravenclaw as if he'd stabbed his mum. Needless to say, the breakup was fuel to Evan's fire. And Lockhart being a cheating bastard? Amo!

"I know, Pandy. I miss him too. He owled me this summer. I think he's more mad at Gilderoy than I am."

"You have no idea. He threw a picture of him into the fireplace and shouted 'GILDEROY MUST DIE' like some little boy."

Keely smiled at the thought.

"And Regulus, he's different since his brother left. He's grown up a lot since he spilled pumpkin juice on you in second year. You'd get along smashingly! The two of you have a lot in common, you know."
