Darkness was not a new sensation for the blind wizard. He had been surrounded by darkness his entire life. From birth, there was no light in his life. Only pain and suffering.
He knew he would be wed to the Fawley girl. His father would see to that fact. His way of continuing control over him.
When they had learned of her disability, his father and brother mocked him. Saying it was what he deserved, that a disgrace like him should have a disgrace like her.
A couple of burdens to the pure-blood names.
He tried to fight back. He wanted to protect the young girl from his horrible family. He didn't want her to be involved in dark magic like he was. He could still hear the laughter as his father and brother tortured him into submission.
He retreated in on himself. He turned off his mind to what they had him do. He loathed himself for it, but he wasn't strong enough. He couldn't fight them, not when he was untrained and weak. So he did as he was told.
He thought maybe when he went to Hogwarts, things would change. And they did, slightly.
He had Sebastian and Anne. Those two incredible people were like candles, warm and bright. They filled him with hope, something he had hardly felt before.
They didn't see him as inferior or terrible like the other students. They saw him for himself. A smart boy who loves to learn new spells and try new things.
Then Anne was attacked, and Sebastian changed. It was understandable at first, reading day and night to find a cure. Ominis could even justify sneaking into the restricted section. But in their fifth year, he got worse.
It broke his heart to watch as his new friend Akira was pulled into the darkness with his oldest friend. He tried to stop him before it was too late. He pleaded with Akira to talk Sebastian out of the dark path he was headed down.
When they were trapped in the Scriptorium, he had to listen to Akira’s scream as Sebastian cursed him. He had to listen as Sebastian rambled on about how dark magic was the key.
Ominis didn't recognize Sebastian anymore. He wasn't himself.
He wanted to use Ominis and Akira. Ominis for his knowledge of dark magic and Akira for the emotion-stealing ancient magic he possessed.
The boy would stop at nothing to save his sister. Even if it meant losing his two best friends.
That year, Ominis wasn't sure if he would ever see the real Sebastian again. And it hurt that the only way he was able to was by killing his own uncle.
Ominis was distraught over what happened in the tomb. He would relive that day again and again.
Maybe if they hadn't gone to the scriptorium. Maybe if he hadn't shown him the Undercroft. Maybe if they hadn't become friends in the first place.
But they were. From that rainy train ride, they were the best of friends. And when it came down to it, Ominis couldn't betray his friend like that. He didn't turn him into the ministry. He had begged Anne and Akira not to either.
It took time, almost a full year before Ominis could stomach being around his friend again. Eventually, things started to go back to how they used to be. Different but familiar.
Sebastian felt extreme guilt after what happened in their fifth year. He renounced dark magic and made it his life's mission to destroy other dark relics like the one that consumed him. He and Akira both went on to become Aurors.
Ominis himself was an Obliviator. He had opted for that department as his lack of sight would be a hindrance if investigating in a Muggle community, as an Auror. He traveled with his squad around Europe and even in the Americas wherever muggle exposure took place.
In fact, two days ago, he had been in the United States, working with the MACUSA's obliviation department to clean up the mess left behind by the Sasquatch Rebellion in ‘92. Even though the uprising took place before he graduated, many muggles still claim that they saw hundreds of giant gorilla men marching across the country.
Ominis was set to stay in the States for another six months before his father demanded the Minister send him back.
Why?
So he could marry the Fawley girl.
Charlotte. He wanted to hate her in school. He really tried. He took every opportunity to avoid her. Being in separate years and houses really helped. He could pretend not to notice her when she walked near. Ominis knew it made her frustrated. But he couldn't get close to her. He would rather her hate him than love her. If she hated him, he could better protect her. His heart wouldn't get in the way. If he loved her, however, it would kill him to see her hurt.
Sebastian, who knew since the second year the situation, described her as rather pretty. He said she had soft yet sharp, delicate features, like a small bird almost. Round hazel eyes, wavy brown hair that fell to her waist. Ominis wondered if it was still that long. He hadn't felt it when she- Merlin.
Ominis rubbed his hands against his face as he tossed over to his other side in bed. It was the evening before his wedding. Charlotte had consumed his thoughts for the better part of a month since she left that night.
When he had left her with her mother and his own, he was eager to succumb to the darkness of slumber. Being around new people was incredibly taxing on him. He had just wanted to sleep.
And her music had helped to soothe his troubled mind.
But as soon as he set foot in his room, he knew she had been there. Her perfume, lavender, and honey coated his bed and dresser. He could sense where her magic had left traces.
He's never told anyone this, not even Sebastian and Akira. He wasn't truly blind, at least not how everyone thought he was. He couldn't see, per se. There were no light differences or shapes. It was more of people's auras. Each witch or wizard had a unique tone that surrounded them. It enveloped them, and if they stayed somewhere for a period of time, he could see where they had been. Like footprints.
Sebastian was a green hue. It had shifted over the years from a sage to a dark emerald to where it has stayed the last 4 years, as a green he imagined grass would look like.
Akira's was a blinding blue. The first time he entered the Great Hall in their fifth year, Ominis had recoiled from just how powerful he was. He remembered he had to pretend he dropped his spoon when Sebastian noticed him jerk at the table.
His family all had a red tone as their auras. A color he found many dark witches and wizards held.
Charlotte was a beautiful golden yellow. Like the sunflowers Anne had described one summer. It radiated around where he knew his bed sat, filling his void room with warmth.
He had sat next to where she had been for hours, just drinking in her warm scent.
Even now, it still lingered. He smoothed his hand over where she had been. The sheet was cold, but her magic was still faint. It was more of a pale yellow now, not nearly as bright. Her scent was faint too. He had tried not to let his cologne touch his bed, but over the month, it naturally faded. He had never had anyone in his room. The normally devoid space now had color he hadn't known before. Every time he opened his eyes, her trace surrounded him.
He sighed in trepidation at what tomorrow would bring.
His family was cruel. He knew that. He could handle it. Ominis only hoped that their cruelty would not dim her light.
~~~
Ominis' POV!! Tell me what you think about his ability!
Also, I know Ominis was blind from birth and probably wouldn't know what colors look like. Let's just say he has an instinctive knowledge of colors.
I hope you enjoy it!
Love ya! <3
