It all started with a simple interview on a TV show. I was flipping channels, entertaining my bored ass while eating chips, when his face popped up.
Instantly, my heart raced, and I could feel hearts forming in my eyes.
I watched his every move, how his big, long fingers intertwined, and listened to his clever words and about the beginning of his empire.
"Alicia!" Mom angrily called. She suddenly arrived from work.
I, supposedly the good daughter in this William family, forgetting the fact that she told me to wash the dishes before she comes home, and me possessing the mañana habit, I haven't washed them yet.
I did not expect her to be home so soon.
My eyes never left the TV, and I yelled...
"I'm busy! I promised to wash them as soon as I'm done with my work!"
I noticed that he does not smile, always baring those sleepy eyes and bored look, but his way of speaking sounds cool and professional.
"Alicia! I told you to wash them immediately! The front yard looked like it's been hit by a tornado. This house is so messy and you are a woman for goodness sake. You have no shame! No one will want to marry your useless pain in the ass! Now get your lazy ass up and do the chores!" My mom banged the door.
She curses a lot when angry, but I just passed them through my ears. She never punishes me with dad's belt anymore since I am already an adult. A 25-year-old, lazy piece of sh*t.
"Alright, alright! Geeze!" I opened the door, took in my mom's fuming face, and her fists were on her sides—good thing she didn't bring a hanger to scare me again.
"I was job hunting, okay. I said I'd do them later, and it's still too hot outside." I made an excuse, but it was half the truth. Living near the coast of Hawaii is no joke to instant sunburns.
"Job hunting? No kidding. Don't pull up that lie on me and do your chores, or else no TV and Wi-Fi for the rest of the week."
Goodness, I'm not a kid anymore!
I waltzed out of my room and began doing the dishes. I know she wouldn't stop nagging until I got them all done.
"I'm serious. I'll be passing my resume online or I could walk-in and apply, and if luck is on my side again, I'll be moving to Pennsylvania."
"Well, that's good. I hope you had considered the four thousand miles of travel for a job. It's been months since you quit teaching, which has been YOUR profession!" She quirked her eyebrows strictly.
"Mom, it's not just a job, trust me on this. And teaching is not my passion. I barely even survived on those five months. I don't want to work under pressure of something I don't love doing. It would get me depressed and sick."
"Fine. Have it your way! Don't come running at me in the future blabbering about your regrets."
Yeah...yeah...
When silence prolonged for quite some time, I glanced to see if she was still there. I guess she had gone to retire in her room.
Having siblings would be great, that way, her attention on me would be divided.
I breathed out heavily...
It was almost eight o'clock when I finally went back in my bed. I quickly pulled my laptop and started working on my resume. Let's see...
After a while, I laid back and shifted my gaze on the white ceiling and zoned out. Then his face popped up.
There's something about that man that I'm deeply drawn to, but what?....
