The first light of dawn seeped through the curtains, casting a soft glow across the room. Armaan stirred, his body still heavy with exhaustion. As his eyes opened, he felt the warmth of Abhira pressed against him, her delicate form cradled tightly to his chest. He gazed down at her peaceful face, and for a moment, everything seemed calm.
But then, flashes of last night's events began to surface.
Vidya's venomous words. The tears that streamed down Abhira's cheeks. Her voice, shaking with fear, whispering that their marriage might not survive this curse. The memory of her brokenness sent a wave of anger surging through him. Armaan's jaw clenched as his thoughts darkened.
How could Vidya do this? For years, he had treated her with the same reverence and love he would have given his biological mother, maybe even more. He had given her the place in his heart that should have been reserved for his mother, Shivani, the woman who had left this world too soon. And in return? Vidya had turned her back on him and lashed out at the one person who meant the most to him. She thought she could get away with this? No. Never.
Armaan's eyes narrowed as his resolve hardened. If Vidya was so determined to prove she was merely his stepmother, then he would show her just how ruthless a stepson could be. For years, she had been dadisa's favorite, the daughter-in-law Dadisa had chosen over Shivani, his mother. But she was still an outsider, a woman whose place in the family was always conditional. And if it came down to it, Armaan knew one thing for certain: Dadisa would always choose her blood—him—over Vidya because even though Dadisa considered him as sautela, she deep down still acknowledged that he was her blood.
A sinister satisfaction began to curl in Armaan's chest as he envisioned his plan. He would destroy Vidya, slowly and painfully. She would regret the day she ever made his Abhira, his fragile Ira, cry. Every tear Abhira shed last night, every tremor of fear in her voice, would be repaid tenfold.
His thoughts grew darker until a soft stirring beside him pulled him back. Abhira shifted, her eyes fluttering open as she blinked up at him. Her face lit up with a sleepy smile, and Armaan felt his heart soften for a moment. His darkness retreated as he took in her innocent expression, the heaviness of the previous night momentarily forgotten.
"Good morning," she whispered, her voice still groggy from sleep. She studied his face for a moment, noticing the faraway look in his eyes. "What are you thinking about so early?" she asked playfully, gently nudging his arm to bring him back from his dark musings.
Armaan's brooding thoughts dissolved as he looked down at her, a smile tugging at his lips. "Nothing much," he replied, trying to mask the anger that still simmered beneath the surface. But Abhira, ever the light to his darkness, wasn't fooled.
She narrowed her eyes at him in mock suspicion. "Oh, come on! You're definitely plotting something." She poked his side with a grin, her voice full of mischief. "Don't tell me you're planning world domination already!". Only if she knew how true her words were.
Armaan chuckled, his chest vibrating as he laughed. Abhira's playful antics, her infectious energy, lightened the weight that had settled on his heart. For a moment, the tension that had been gnawing at him all night lifted, and he found himself lost in her innocence, her lighthearted attempts to cheer him up.
"World domination?" he teased back, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her closer. "Maybe. But only if you'll be my queen."
Abhira laughed, her worries from the previous night fading as they shared this moment. The love and joy in her eyes momentarily pushed aside the shadows that had begun to creep into Armaan's heart.
The morning passed with their playful banter, Abhira's warmth slowly but surely lifting Armaan from the darkness that had consumed him. But deep down, beneath the smiles and laughter, Armaan's mind still churned with thoughts of revenge.
As Abhira giggled and teased, unaware of the storm brewing inside him, Armaan silently vowed to make Vidya pay. She would regret ever trying to break them.
But for now, he let Abhira's joy wash over him, knowing that as long as she was smiling, everything else could wait.
