A few weeks earlier
George sat in his boss's office, his hands crossed nervously in his lap. He had been called into Mr. Castillo's office and there were two possible reasons why. Number one, he was in deep trouble, probably for sneaking in actual coffee and not drinking the shitty office coffee. Number two, the boss has a really important task for George to complete.
He was really hoping for the latter.
His boss, a tall, stern man with a no nonsense attitude, sat down, the leather of his chair creaking under his weight. He leaned back, "Davidson, there is a reason I have called you here today. " He said, his voice gruff.
George nodded, remaining calm and collected. "And that reason is...? " He said hesitantly.
"Well, there has been a rogue within our agency and he's on the run. Your job is to eliminate him. However... There is a hurdle. " Mr. Castillo continued, crossing his arms across his broad chest.
George sighed, his shoulders slumping. "It's Dream, isn't it? " He grumbled in annoyance.
Mr. Castillo nodded, "indeed, but I trust you can handle a little competition. "
George nodded, standing up with an adjustment of his cuff. "You got it, boss. " He said. His dress shoes clicking against the tiled flooring as he exited his boss's office, the weight of his responsibility heavy on his shoulders.
He glanced up at Karl, who was waiting ever so patiently for him, drinking a steaming cup of crappy office coffee. "You good? " Karl called out, hopping of the desk he was sitting on.
"Yeah, I'm good, just a new assignment, " George replied, approaching his friend. "I have to wipe out the rogue, " he added.
"Ah, the rogue. " Karl muttered curtly. The discovery of one of their own going rogue had been a heavy betrayal on the agency.
"Mhm, worst of all, Blondie is going after him as well, " George said with a heavy sigh, leaning against the water cooler.
Karl snorted, his eyes gleaming with mischief. "Is that so? What're you gonna do about it, Gogy? " he commented with a raised eyebrow.
George rolled his eyes. Karl had always been an instigator when it came to his and Dream's rivalry. He just enjoyed the drama like the drama queen he was, and was always adding gasoline to the fire. "Get to the target before he does, like always."
Karl, seemingly disappointed, blinked at George. "That's all? What about the action? The drama? The tension! " He said dramatically, throwing his hands around.
"You're just dramatic, Karl," George commented, heading towards his cubical.
Karl followed, sitting on the corner of George's desk, despite George's pet peeve about people in his personal space. "You two's rivalry is the only gossip around the office. "
"Well, I think you should start thinking about other things beside the office gossip, we're assassins, not high schoolers, " George said, his tone firm and professional.
Karl sighed, "I suppose you have a point." He relented, knowing better than to argue with George.
"Thank you, now let's finish the files so we can go home, " George said, handing Karl a stack of files despite Karl's annoyed huff.
