ANASTASIAS POVThe letter still weighed heavy on my mind. I'd been going through the motions since dinner, trying to keep myself together as Anya chatted beside me. But even as I tried to push the tension aside, I couldn't escape the feeling that something worse was coming.
The air in the castle tonight, felt heavier. Like the shadows themselves were pressing in. I wasn't hungry, I didn't want to talk. I felt weak. Tired. I couldn't survive any longer sitting here acting as if I was ok.
After dinner, I left Anya, Tobi and Blaise who had gone up to the astrology tower. I'd told her I was tired and she didn't press. She knew me well enough to know something was off.
As I lay in bed, she flickering torchlight from the corridor cast strange shadows on the walls, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being watched. Well, I knew I was. The letter itself had said so. My eyelids grew heavier, and eventually, the exhaustion took over me.
But the peace didn't last long.
I'd suddenly stirred awake, only to feel a rough hand cover my mouth and a sharp whisper in my ear. "You think...you are so clever, don't you."
The voice rang familiar however my head was spinning and I couldn't place it. And before I could fully grasp what was happening, I felt myself being lifted. The coldness of the air against my bare legs, the sensation of being carried...it was all slipping away as darkness crept me back in. "Somnus Enervate."
DRACOS POV
I had been restless ever since the party. Ever since that stupid girl caught my eye, there was this pull - a need to know more, to understand her. Karkaroff had been on my mind more than I'd liked. Why was she dancing with Rosier? What did he have in him, that I didn't? Pathetic little traitor she doesn't know what's best for her. I am what is best for her. I can't help it. Why does she not want me back? I am Draco Malfoy, everybody wants me.
I'd felt the rage inside me as I watched Flint, watch her. My girl. The way he watched her at dinner. It's not as if I'd been at dinner however I had to make sure I'd seen her today. Before I went back to my task. But, him. He watched her like she was his prey. I'd heard about the way she had humiliated him, and I knew it had only fuelled him as if it was a game.
A game with my girl?
I didn't know why I found myself walking the dim, empty corridors late at night. Possibly because it was the only time I'd felt at peace. I sound weak. However, the draw was undeniable. It wasn't until I reached the dungeon staircase that I heard the faint sounds - low voices, and then a muffled groan. My heart quickened, an uneasy knot forming in my stomach.
