Chapter 5: Saving Irene

After Lee agrees to head out with Carley, they walk to the entrance of the Travelier Motel, which is overrun with walkers. They whisper to avoid attracting attention from the zombies.

Lee: Shit! Get down!

A nearby walkers growls and Lee and Carley duck down behind the wall. Carley takes her gun out. After a moment, the walkers walks away and Lee exhales, relieved. Lee and Carley peek over the fence. A creaking sound is heard.

Carley: Did you see that?

Lee: Sure did.

The lid of an icebox opens partly as something pounds on it from inside. Lee and Carley stand up, and Carley points a gun at the sound.

Lee: Be ready to shoot.

The lid opens, and Glenn is inside.

Glenn: Guys! Oh, man, I'm glad you're here.

Carley: Jesus, Glenn!

Glenn gets out of the icebox and jumps over the wall. Everyone crouches down.

Lee: Alright, that wasn't so hard.

Carley: Can we get out of here before any of these things notice us?

Glenn: Not yet. There's a survivor trapped up there.

Everyone turns to look at the second floor of the motel, where there are walkers pounding on a door to one of the rooms.

Carley: No way. We gotta go, now.

Glenn: Listen. I was out here looking for gas. And then, up there in the corner room, I heard crying coming from inside.

Lee: Who is it?

Glenn: It's a girl. We talked and she got frightened. I was trying to get in and help her and she started yelling and saying I was bitten. I tried to convince her I wasn't, and that's when all these guys came out of the forest. A couple almost got me, and I ended up hiding in the ice machine.

Carley: Lucky you; now let's go!

Glenn: We can't just leave her.

Lee: Damn right, we can't.

Carley: You guys are suicidal over a girl!

Glenn: I'm saving her, with or without you.

Lee: Think about if it was you.

Carley: Fine. Let's go save Glenn's damsel in distress.

Carley draws her gun and everyone moves to the next wall, crouching behind it.

Lee: Okay, this is the plan. We don't know how hard it's gonna be to get her out of that room.

Glenn: Yeah, it's boarded up.

Lee: So we have to kill every one of them in here.

Carley reloads her pistol.

Lee: Quietly. Noise attracts these things. Now let's have a look around.

Glenn: Be careful peeking around. If they get on our scent, we're toast.

Lee looks over the wall at a walker eating a corpse.

Glenn: Oh, man. She's eating something. So we got that one right there, close.

Lee sees a walker trying to enter a room.

Glenn: There's one back there, trying to get into a room, but I didn't see anyone actually in there.

Lee looks at the car.

Glenn: I saw one lurking on the other side of that car.

Lee looks to the left, behind the wall.

Lee: There's a pillow over there.
