Lyrics:
You're home, you're home, you're home to me
So leave me, leave me, leave me a map
I'm here at my cliff looking down
I cannot bear you a son
But I will try
For if I am not yours, what am I?
I daydream I'd give one a name of my own
For I, even I, even I am on loan
I have, I have, I watch a dream, breaking
Breaking, breaking, me
Away from my cliff, I am looking down from
I cannot bear you a son
I have tried
But if I am not yours, what am?
I daydream I'd give him a name of my own
For I, even mine, even mine is unknown
So let me go towards the morning star
With hope it won't disappear
This song portrays the feeling of a woman that believes that her only purpose and the only way she could live with herself is by forming a family. She feels she is being reduced just to a role, the role of a wife. This is a reflection on how social expectations affect the way in which women are seen and how they see themselves. The protagonist is talking about wanting to be a wife, but also how she's trapped in this idea and wants to be free, the whole concept of marriage is affecting all her individuality and free will, when she mentions she's "on loan" she means she doesn't feel she belongs in there, as she forces herself to so something she doesn't want just to fulfill the "purpose" given to her by the society and sacrifice everything that she once wanted for it.
Another interpretation is the solitude she feels, how she wishes to find an emmotional connection, not caring if she has to give away things she doesn't want to, desperately searching for something, anything that could take her out from her lowest, since she already lost it all.
