"...and that's the real key to winning, you have to believe in yourself and then find a good and positive support system to encourage your dreams."
Maya glanced up from the zoom meeting she was on and smiled as Carina slipped silently into the study and shut the door.  Turning her attention back to the meeting she nodded in response to what the coach was saying, even though she hadn't heard it.  One of the young runners raised a hand and stood up.
"Do you miss it?"
Maya lifted an eyebrow and shrugged her shoulders.
"Sometimes I do.  But I have found a new level of competition and it pushes me harder than I ever imagined."
"You mean firefighting?"
"Firefighting was an adrenaline rush that came as close as I imagined to what drove me to succeed once I stopped competing but no, the competition I'm talking about is finding a family and learning how to be the best competitor I could be for them.  I'm constantly pushing myself to become a better wife and mother now.  Competing doesn't have to be a singular goal, it's a way to find balance. But that took time to really understand and embrace."
Another young runner stood up.
"Will you ever compete again?"
Maya smiled as she looked up at Carina, standing there watching and listening.
"That's a conversation I would need to have with my wife."
The coach stood up in front of the group and motioned for them to sit down as he turned back toward the screen.
"Captain Deluca-Bishop we can't thank you enough for spending this time with us. Everyone, please say thank you."
A collective shout came over the speakers as Maya smiled and waved before the call ended. Closing the laptop, she pushed back from the desk as Carina made her way over, straddled her legs over Maya's lap and stared at her. Maya wrapped her arms around Carina's hips, sliding her hands up her wife's waist and pulling her closer.
"You look beautiful."
Carina's half smile grew wide as her eyes sparkled in the dim room and she leaned close to Maya's lips.
"How beautiful?"
"So beautiful that I want you right here and right now."
Carina's lips met Maya's in a deep, warm kiss as she ground her pelvis into her wife and grabbed at Maya's shirt to pull it off. Maya's hands slid under Carina's shirt and she smiled as she realized her wife wasn't wearing a bra.
"Mmmm...grazie Principessa...."
Carina pulled Maya's shirt over her head and leaned back in for another deep kiss, biting on Maya's lower lip. Maya was pulling Carina's shirt up when her phone began to buzz. Carina stopped and looked at her.
"Do you have to answer that?"
"Fuck it, I'm not available for anyone but you."
Carina nodded and smiled as Maya's phone went off again. Sighing, Carina pulled back and turned slightly to reach for it as Maya frowned and waited. Looking at the screen, Carina's face scrunched up and she hit 'ACCEPT' as Maya looked at her questioningly.
"Gabri, cosa sta succedendo? Perche stai chiamando il telefono di Maya?"
Maya watched her wife's face as she listened to Gabriella before leaning back on Maya's lap, her face growing serious.
"But he's ok?"
Maya squinted her eyes and tilted her head as Carina continued.
Ok, grazie....si si si...I'll call Zia Sophia now....ok, yes I will...ciao...ciao, ciao"
Carina pulled the phone from her ear and stared at it as Maya's eyebrows lifted up.
"What happened?"
"There was a disagreement with a shipping schedule and some freight was misplaced. Raphael got into a situation with the captain of the ship. But Gabriella says he's ok."
"Are you ok Babe?"
Carina nodded but didn't look up. Maya took her phone out of Carina's hand and tossed it on the desk as she pulled her wife close to her and kissed her tenderly.
"Listen to me, ok? If Gabriella is taking care of him then you know he's going to be just fine."
Maya's blue eyes stared intently at Carina and she smiled back and nodded. She was leaning back in for a kiss when they heard the girls start crying. Maya chuckled as she reached for her shirt on the floor.
"Just when we got to the point where Liam started letting us have sexy time..."

"Carina where's my backpack?"
"Probably by the front door with my bag."
"It's not there, I checked. And neither is your bag."
"Che diavolo! I know I put it there!"
"Hey, that's a dollar in the jar Babe!"
"Maledizione, fine! When you find my bag you can put two dollars in, va bene!"
Maya was searching around the living room when Liam came toddling out of his room, her backpack on his shoulders, dragging behind him and carrying Carina's bag with a huge smile on his face.
"Mamma! I werk! Wee woo!"
Maya shook her head as she smiled at him and knelt down to face him.
"How about you play fire trucks here instead? Can I have my bag please?"
Liam looked at her intently and Maya realized that his eyes were taking on a much more hazel tint with a perfect mix of brown to green. He smiled at her and she felt her heart melting as she took her backpack off of him. She looked inside and laughed at seeing his favorite blanket and some toys stuffed inside.
"So how about I let you keep these things, hmmm? I know you need your blanket for sure, right?"
Liam grabbed at his blanket and jammed it under his arm as he watched Maya take his toys out and place them on the floor. When she got to his plastic fire truck he put his hand on it, holding it at the opening of her bag.
"Mamma werk."
"That's right love bug. You are the smartest and cutest Probie I know."
Liam pushed the fire truck back into Maya's bag and then stuck his hand deep inside, pulling out his toy stethoscope and showing it to Maya.
"Mamma werk! Hirt!"
"Yes Liam, this is what Mamma uses at her work too. Do you want to keep that here?"
Liam looked at it for a moment before opening Carina's bag and shoving it in there. Getting a quick peek, Maya laughed as she saw that he had stuffed toys into Carina's bag as well.
"Are you sure you want us to keep your toys buddy?"
Liam stared at her for a long moment before dropping the bag and jumping into Maya's arms. She held him close and kissed his cheek.
"Ok, ok, I get it. Thank you love bug. Mamma and I will take good care of your toys."
