"So you're absolutely sure she's going to be fine?"
"She had been donating her own blood up until you guys left for Europe, with instructions to hold it for her in case of emergency during delivery. She had gone over every scenario with me and Doctor Robbins, just in case Arizona might have been here. Maya, Carina accounted for virtually every scenario. You didn't know that?"
Maya shook her head and looked over her shoulder at Carina, sleeping peacefully in their private room in the NICU, before turning back to Jo.
"Just when I think she can't surprise me any more..."
"Well, all I know is that you now have two tiny but healthy beautiful little girls. They'll have to spend the night in the NICU, but Doctor Bailey and Meredith had ordered special newborn crib units so the twins can sleep in here with both of you tonight. They are just getting prepped and we'll bring them in shortly."
Maya nodded and smiled as she finally let herself exhale. Jo placed her hand on Maya's arm and gave her a light squeeze.
"Congratulations Mommy. Now, go and shut your eyes for a bit."
Jo smiled and turned to leave as Maya headed over to Carina's bedside and looked down at her. She gently brushed a stray strand from her wife's face as she leaned down and kissed her lips tenderly. Carina stirred and opened her eyes, a smile spreading across her face.
"Bambina..."
"Both girls are fine. Tiny but healthy and perfect with ten fingers and ten toes each. They'll be in here very soon. I'm so proud of you my love."
"How much?"
"Five pounds, eight ounces and four pounds, twelve ounces. Both girls are sixteen inches and they are beautiful, just like their Mamma."
"Mmmm, you are beautiful so of course they would be."
"Oh no, your genes have definitely made their presence known my love, our first daughter has brown hair and I see you in her face already."
Carina smiled and tugged on Maya's shirt, wiggling her finger for Maya to come closer.
"I love you Maya. Thank you for giving me this."
"Your welcome my Principessa. I love you too."

"What are you doing out here?"
"Carina told me to go let everyone know.  She's going to close her eyes until I get back and the girls are brought in.  Miranda...I...thank you."
Maya's eyes welled up as she pulled Miranda in for a tight hug.
"Ok, you're welcome...but...I didn't do anythi-"
"You said 'yes'."
"Maya, are you overstimulated from all this?"
Maya wiped her tears and smiled.
"When Carina came here to be hosted for her study, you said yes. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have an amazing wife or a beautiful little family.  I can't ever thank you enough."
Miranda smiled at Maya and patted her hand as they stopped just before the doors to the waiting room.  Miranda pointed out there as she looked at Maya.
"Because of you and all those people out there, I found a family I never imagined.  You and I aren't that different Maya, we are both driven by our passion for being the best.  But because of the people who are meant to be with us, you and I have learned that life is so much more than our singular goal.  Carina was meant to be with you, with all of us, and I'm so thankful she found us.  And listen, I'm not just saying that because I want her to let Ben and I stay in that great big Italian castle of hers next summer!"
Maya smiled and chuckled as Miranda motioned for her to go through the doors.
"Now, go tell these poor people who have been waiting impatiently for the good news.  I'll check on the twins and get the Deluca-Bishop family all together as fast as I can."
Maya took a deep breath and stepped forward as the automatic doors slid open and she walked through. Everyone turned, anticipation all over their faces. Maya looked at all of them and smiled.
"We have two beautiful girls and Mamma is resting after a scary couple of minutes."
The group surged forward with cheers and smiles to wrap Maya in a community hug.  She scrunched her eyebrows and turned to Andy as she looked around.
"Where's Liam?"
"Mason and your mom took him for a walk, he was getting antsy.  I think they had a a real breakthrough in their relationship."
"Huh?"
"Later.  Hey, you're a friggin MOM Maya Bishop!  Can you believe it?"
"Andy, I know you and I have delivered babies, but this was...the only other time it felt so personal was when Carina delivered Liam, and we never even expected he would be ours."
"Amama!"
Maya looked past Andy to see Liam toddling toward her, holding Katherine's hand as Mason walked on his other side. In a burst of emotion, Maya began crying, squatting down to pick up her son.
"Amama cry."
Liam put his tiny finger on Maya's cheek, pressing it into the tear that was falling.
"Hey buddy, guess what? Mamma and I have a surprise for you!  You're a big brother now! Wow!"
"Wow! Amama cry!"
Maya began laughing as she kissed him and held his head close to her cheek, turning to look at Katherine and Mason.
"Everything ok sweetie?"
"Yeah Mom, everything is perfect.  Thank you."
"Of course honey-"
"No, THANK YOU for never giving up, even when Mason and I were complete assholes to you."
Mason put his arm around Katherine and hugged her as he nodded in agreement.
"Yeah Mom, Maya is right.  Thanks."
Katherine looked at her children and wiped the tears from her eyes.
"You're my babies.  Nothing will ever change that.  I'm just glad that we made it through and can be together now.  But enough about that, what about my granddaughters?"
Maya smiled and nodded as she readjusted Liam and looked at everyone.
"We're waiting to decide who is who, but Andrea Victoria and Gianna Gabriella are tiny but healthy and you will all be able to meet them tomorrow.  I've got to get back in there because they are bringing the girls into our room soon. I really just want to tell you all that Carina and I love you and we're so happy that you are the family our children will grow up knowing, right Liam?"
"Amama cry!"
Everyone laughed as  Maya turned to Katherine.
"Mom, can you come back with Liam and I? I want him to see Carina and the girls, but I'm staying the night, so could you..?"
Katherine nodded and Maya turned to Mason.
"Hey..I...uhhh..."
"Yeah, me too sis."
Mason put his arm around Maya and kissed her forehead.
"Now go on.  Give Carina a kiss from me...on the cheek."
Mason smiled and winked as Maya smiled back and nodded.

"Knock, knock...anyone in here want to meet a pair of adorable little girls?"
Miranda and Teddy wheeled the cribs in as Katherine picked Liam up from Carina's bed.  Maya moved to pick up one of the girls and brought her to Carina, settling her into the crook of her arm.  She then went and picked up their other daughter and brought her to Carina's other arm, nestling her carefully.  Carina had tears in her eyes as she looked from one to the other over and over again.  Maya took her phone out of her back pocket and snapped some pictures, focusing through the tears welling up in her eyes.
"Sweetie, switch with me."
Katherine reached for Maya's phone and Maya took Liam from her, taking him over to the bed so he could see.
"Liam, these are your sisters.."
Maya looked at Carina, their eyes locking in the unspoken conversation they had always easily shared, and nodded.  Carina looked at each of the girls one more time before nodding toward the dark haired baby.
"Andrea Victoria...and this is Gianna Gabriella."
Carina kissed Gianna's tiny blonde head and then Andrea's as she looked up at Maya and smiled.
"Well there you go buddy, these are our new babies."
Liam looked down, mesmerized by the tiny things in his mom's arm and after a moment, he smiled and pointed, looking back at Maya.
"Amama baby."
"Yup, Mamma baby."
From the foot of the bed, Katherine let her tears fall silently as she kept the video recording going, snapping pictures and smiling as she watched the tiny little Deluca-Bishop family bond together.
