What are we... rewolves?

Once the sun rose the next day, Dipper told Ford about what he and Mabel had seen. To the twins' surprise, their Great-Uncle revealed that werewolves didn't exist, but creatures called "Dogmen" did. Unlike werewolves from the movies, Dogmen are highly intelligent predators with a slender, yet very defined frame. They could stalk you for hours from mere feet away and you'd never even know they were there had your senses not alerted you beforehand. Dogmen could also be seen in the daytime. They were far less active during the day, but coming upon one would likely result in a gruesome demise. Unfortunately, the incident and what Ford had told the Twins had slipped their mind. Two weeks had passed without incident. Dipper and Pacifica's flirting had really ramped up after the gala. They had forgotten all about the Pale Man, as well. Pacifica liked what she and Dipper had. After the party, she wasn't sure she wanted to put a label on things as to not rush into something the pair weren't sure about, but as the days went by and her possessiveness nagged at her; she REALLY wanted Dipper to be her boyfriend. The hand holding, little touches here and there, dates (if you could call hanging out at eachother's houses a date), and general flirty-ness had started to get to the both of them. They both wanted more, but were worried the other person didn't. Dipper wanted more than anything to make Pacifica his girlfriend. After the supernatural activity had calmed down, Pacifca was all he could think about. He fantacized about her lips and how soft they were. Everything about her was soft. Her hands, her hugs, her skin, presumably her lips, but her eyes... her eyes were like an ocean with so much happening just below their seemingly peaceful surface. Dipper knew she was still grappling with familial issues brought on by that fateful night three years ago, but he was there for her, always. Even when the twins returned to Piedmont, Dipper (Mabel, by extension) and Pacifica always kept in contact. He wasn't going to let her family drag her down to their level. Not if he could help it.

Gravity Falls' Hero and Sweetheart lay upon the roof of the Mystery Shack, just above the Gift Shop, watching the sun set. Pacifica slowly stretched her pinky over to Dipper's and intertwined them. Something about holding his hand made her stomach do flips. They no longer blushed at the flirting or contact anymore as they no longer got flustered by it. Infact, they welcomed it, craved it, but only from eachother. Nobody else could make the teens feel the way they do about eachother. As the sun disappeared behind the trees, Pacifica asked the lingering question that both of them knew would have to be answered eventually. "Mason...", she began. 'Oh boy,' Dipper thought to himself. 'She's serious about something.' "What- IS THAT!?" Dipper turned his head in the direction that Pacifica's finger pointed. He saw a silhouette that he quite couldn't make heads or tails of. He froze in his tracks. The stench was back. The smell of wet dog and rotting meat assaulted their nostrils. "Ugh, when did you guys get a dog?" Suddenly, that feeling of dread that had hit the Pines family weeks ago washed over the teenagers, sat high above the ground; out of reach of whatever may wait below. "Pacifica, I'll be right back. I promise." Pacifica hadn't said anything, both confused by the smell and the shadowy outline in the woods. Dipper started descending the ladder to the Gift Shop. Once he was inside, he quickly ran around to every door that lead outside and locked it. He ran back to the ladder and climbed up once again. Once he got to the top, he called for Pacifica. "Hey." Pacifica didn't respond. Her eyes, full of fear, were fixed on the woodline, mouth agape. Dipper's eyes followed hers. Just as he expected, the Dogman had come back. It slowly emerged from around a thick redwood tree, dragging it's claws across it's bark. The beast's head tilted up and looked directly at the teens. It's muzzle twisted into a sick smile. The Dogman knew they were scared and it reveled in that fact. "Dipper, what is that thing? Is that a werewolf?", Pacifica's heart was about to beat out of her chest. "Go down the ladder. I'll be right behind you, don't worry.", Dipper spoke, trying and failing to keep his voice level. Pacifica did as she was asked, her eyes never leaving him until she couldn't see him anymore. The younger Pines twin looked out across the yard, his eyes locking with the canid monster. The creature slowly turned and walked back into the forest, but not before letting out a deep howl that made Dipper step backwards, almost falling down the hole the ladder was built for. He quickly scrambled down and closed the roof trap-door and Gift Shop trap-door. Pacifica was waiting for him at the bottom. "Attic.", Dipper said commandingly. Once they made their way upstairs, the pair locked eyes with Mabel. She had heard and seen everything. She had a look of terror on her face. "I- I thought it was gone.", was all she said; her voice dripping with fear. Dipper closed the door to their bedroom while Pacifica called her parents to tell them she was spending the night at Tiffany's, who she wasn't even friends with anymore, but they wouldn't check to confirm that lie. It wasn't like she felt safe at the Shack currently, but it would be suicide to leave with the Dogman stalking around. Either it would kill her, her driver, or both. "Hey. Earlier, you called me 'Mason' and you usually only do that when you're serious about something, so what's up?", Dipper asked. Pacifica blinked for a moment, having completely forgotten about beginning her bold question before she spotted the Dogman's silhouette in the treeline. "Oh, uh, I was just seriously scared about that dog thing. That's all. It really freaked me out.", she lied. Dipper seemed to accept this answer, though Pacifica suspected he just didn't want to push her after what they had just experienced.

As the night went on, none of them could sleep for fear that the upright dog would return. The fact that they were inside did little to ease their terror because for all they knew, it could easily tear down a door or break a window and make it's way inside and get them. It was clearly a predator. Front-facing eyes, teeth built for grabbing and ripping, and strong limbs built for chasing prey. The kids knew going outside before sunrise was suicide, which is why when they heard a scratching sound around the outside of the house on the bottom floor, they ignored it. Dipper wasn't worried about it digging under the house and into Ford's lab bc he had it reinforced with steel and concrete, so he knew atleast that part of the house was secure. However, he wasn't so sure about the rest. Eventually, the three of them dozed off, Dipper sleeping on the floor while Pacifica and Mabel occupied the beds. When the sun rose, the three quickly got up and made sure Pacifica was in the guest room (Ford's old room, where the body-switching carpet once was) to avoid getting in trouble. They could only imagine Stan or Ford's reaction to seeing Dipper and Pacifica sleeping in the same room, albeit in seperate sleeping arangements. Either way, it wasn't a good look and they decided to be on the safe side. The trio decended down the stairs and into the kitchen where Stan was reading the newspaper and Ford was drinking a cup of coffee with a small stack of research papers next to him. "Any of you hear that annoying scratching sound last night?", Stan asked, clearly grumpy; likely because the sound kept him up. "That's what we wanted to talk about.", Dipper explained. "Grunkle Ford, we saw it again last night when Pacifica and I were on the roof. Mabel saw it from our room." Ford's eyes grew wide as he turned to the still-slightly groggy teenagers. "Oh no. A Dogman returning to a human inhabited space more than once means it's hunting us. Waiting for the opportunity to attack us when we're on our own. Unless it has packmates, it won't attack us if we're in groups of three or more. Fiddleford and I were once attacked, but when we brought another friend from Backupsmore with us, one of the creatures simply glared at us." The 15 year olds exchanged glances of worry. "A 'Dogman'?", Stan asked. "It's like a werewolf, only real and far more dangerous.", Ford explained. Stan nodded. "From now on, nobody goes out after dark, but if you absolutely have to then you're going in groups of three or more. I've seen my fair share of weird and creepy things around here, but if Ford seems offput by it then we should be careful." That was... uncharacteristically wise of Grunkle Stan. It didn't go unnoticed by Dipper. "Sun's up now.", Dipper spoke suddenly, breaking the nearly-too-long silence. "We should get you home.", he said, gesturing to Pacifica. "Right. Just, make sure to keep your eyes peeled. You told us Ford said it was active during the day also. I know it's more active at night, but that's not a chance I'm willing to take." Dipper and Mabel nodded. With that, they set off to Pacifica's house, keeping their head on a swivel and jumping at every noise they heard along the way.
