The days following Min-seo's confession were some of the hardest the twins had ever faced. Jaehyun, true to his word, tried to accept her decision, but the hurt was still fresh. He spent more time away from home, distancing himself from the memories of what could have been. Taehyung, on the other hand, found himself torn between his happiness with Min-seo and the guilt he felt for causing his brother pain.
One evening, Taehyung found Jaehyun sitting alone by the river, staring out at the shimmering water. The city lights reflected on the surface, casting a beautiful, yet melancholic glow. Taehyung approached slowly, unsure of how to begin. The rift between them had grown wider since Min-seo's decision, and Taehyung knew that if they didn't address it soon, they might lose each other forever.
"Mind if I sit?" Taehyung asked cautiously, standing a few feet away.
Jaehyun shrugged, his eyes never leaving the water. "It's a free country."
Taehyung sighed but took a seat beside him anyway. They sat in silence for a while, the only sound being the gentle lapping of the water against the shore.
"I hate this," Jaehyun finally muttered, his voice tight with emotion. "I hate feeling like I've lost you."
Taehyung's heart clenched. "You haven't lost me, Jaehyun. I'm still here."
Jaehyun shook his head, finally turning to look at his brother. "But it's different now. It's always going to be different."
"I know," Taehyung admitted, his voice thick with regret. "But that doesn't mean we can't fix it. You're my brother. That means everything to me."
Jaehyun's eyes glistened with unshed tears, and for a moment, Taehyung saw the vulnerability his brother so often hid behind his carefree smile. "I don't know how to fix this," Jaehyun confessed, his voice breaking. "Every time I see you with her, it's like a knife to the heart."
"I know, and I'm so sorry," Taehyung said, his voice filled with sincerity. "If I could change the way things happened, I would. But I love her, Jaehyun. I can't help that."
Jaehyun clenched his fists, his emotions warring inside him. "I love her too," he whispered. "But I know she'll never love me the way she loves you."
The admission hung in the air between them, raw and painful. Taehyung felt a pang of guilt, but at the same time, relief washed over him. They were finally speaking openly about what had been festering between them for weeks.
"I hate this, Tae," Jaehyun said, his voice cracking. "But I don't hate you. I could never hate you."
Taehyung's chest tightened, and without thinking, he reached over and pulled his brother into a hug. Jaehyun stiffened for a moment before finally relaxing into the embrace, his shoulders shaking as he let the tears fall.
"I'm so sorry," Taehyung whispered, his own tears falling. "I'm sorry for everything."
Jaehyun clung to him, the weight of their emotions finally breaking through the walls they had both built up. It was a cathartic release, the tension between them dissolving as they allowed themselves to grieve for the relationship they had both lost with Min-seo.
Min-seo, watching from afar, felt her own heart ache for the twins. She had hoped that her decision wouldn't come between them, but she knew that was unrealistic. Their bond was deep, but it had been tested in ways that neither of them had expected. As she stood there, watching them hug by the river, she felt a flicker of hope. Maybe, just maybe, they could find a way through this.
With a deep breath, Min-seo stepped forward, ready to be there for both of them as they began the long journey of healing.
