"JI-HO, WAKE UP!"

My voice cracked as I shook him harder, but there was no response. His eyes were half-closed, his grip on my hand loosening as he began to slump in my arms. I could feel the heat radiating off his body, and the wound on his leg looked... wrong. Almost like it was burning from the inside out.

"Fuck—" I cursed, panic flooding my chest. My heart raced as I watched my best friend slip further into unconsciousness, his breaths coming in shallow, ragged gasps. I couldn't lose him. Not like this.

Without thinking, I bent down and scooped him onto my back. His head lolled against my shoulder, and I could feel his shallow breaths on the back of my neck.

I didn't have time to think about what was happening to him—there was no time for fear, no time for hesitation. All I knew was that I had to get him to safety. I had to find help. Now.

Ahead of me, through the thick trees, I could see the faint glow of the city's lights—the one we had seen from the hill. That had to be our only chance. Maybe someone there could help him, maybe they had answers. Whatever was happening to Ji-ho, it was beyond anything I could understand, and I wasn't going to stand around and watch him fade.

I started running, my feet pounding against the forest floor, the shadows around us swirling in the dim light. The weight of him on my back was nothing compared to the fear gnawing at my insides. Every second counted. My lungs burned as I pushed myself harder, weaving through the trees, my breath coming in quick gasps.

"Hang in there, Ji-ho," I muttered under my breath, my voice shaky as I ran. "Just hang on."

The city lights grew closer, but the distance felt endless. Ji-ho's body felt heavier with each step, and I could feel him slipping further away. I could barely hear the low sounds of his breathing anymore, just the heat radiating from him—unnatural, scorching.

I bit down on my lip, hard enough to taste blood, forcing myself to focus. I couldn't think about what was wrong with him. I just had to keep moving. If I stopped now, it was over.

Finally, as the trees started to thin, the city loomed ahead of me, glowing with an eerie, almost magical light. I didn't care how strange this place was anymore—I just needed to get to someone, anyone, who could help us.

"Somebody!" I yelled hoarsely, my voice cracking as I stumbled forward. "Help! Please!"

I didn't know if anyone could hear me, or if anyone would care. But I had no other choice. Ji-ho's life was in my hands, and I wasn't going to let him go without a fight.

Suddenly, out of the shadows, people appeared—five of them, moving swiftly and surrounding me before I even had a chance to react. They looked on guard, their stances tense, eyes sharp as they took in the sight of me and Ji-ho. My heart pounded in my chest, fear and desperation mixing together as I tried to catch my breath.

One of them stepped forward. He was tall, his figure commanding even in the dim light. His brown hair was neatly pulled back, and his sharp eyes locked onto me with an intensity that made my blood run cold. There was something about him—something authoritative, almost predatory. I felt like I was being sized up, judged, and I knew I was out of my depth.

He stopped just a few feet away, his gaze flicking between me and Ji-ho, who was still limp on my back. His voice, when he spoke, was low and firm. "Who are you, and what are you doing here?" His tone carried a quiet menace, like he wasn't used to being questioned, only obeyed.
