CHAPTER 1- ADOPTION DAY

EMMETT'S P.O.V.

I watched Rosalie as she watched Bella and Edward dance around the room with Renesmee. Her eyes were full of sadness. She loved Nessie and loved getting to help raise her, but it just made her want a child of her own even more. I wish I could give that to her. A child is the one thing she wants more than anything in the world and I can't give that to her.

"Emmett, Carlisle," Edward called. We looked up at him and he motioned with his head to the door. We got up and walked outside with Edward following. No one seemed interested in what we were doing. We walked far enough into the woods so that no one would hear us. "I know what you were thinking in there." Edward said.

"So..." I asked.

"So... me and Carlisle know that Rosalie's been upset recently too and we have a solution."

"We found out about an orphanage a few miles from here and they don't make you wait years to adopt like most do. Edward and I thought maybe you would want to go and adopt a child." Carlisle said. "Of course I want to!" I said excitedly. I would have before but didn't know if the rest of the family would agree. "Would it be safe to do that though?" I asked, "If the volturi find out we've got a human living with us they might..."

I trailed off, not wanting to finish. "We'll tell them that we plan to change the baby when it's older," Carlisle answered, "We won't let them hurt it." That was good enough for me. I'm about to adopt a baby! Alice squealed from in the house, causing us to laugh. "I'll go to the orphanage tomorrow." I said.

*

"Are you Emmett Cullen?" A woman asked as I walked into the orphanage. "Yes." I answered.

"You called earlier hoping to look at the babies, right?"

"Yes."

"Right this way." She said and led me into a small nursery. There were so many cute babies here! I still hadn't decided if I should get a boy or girl. Rosalie would want a girl. I walked by each little crib, looking at all the babies lying in them. They were so cute but I couldn't picture any of them as my child.

One of the little girls caught my eye and I stopped by her crib. She was sleeping peacfully. There were a few fading bruises on her arms. "Where did she get these bruises?" I asked the woman as I gently picked up the little girl. "She had a rough night last night," The woman answered coming to stand beside me. She stroked the baby's cheek, "Her parents were murdered last night and the cops brought her here.

"The cops told us that when they got there the murders looked like they were going to take the baby. One of them was holding her by the arms and about to jump out the window. The cops must have scared them because they dropped her and ran off."

"That's horrible." I said, instantly wanting to kill who ever hurt this baby. She suddenly yawned and opened her eyes. They were a bluish green color. I also just noticed that she had a little bit of black hair on top of her head. "Hey cutie." I cooed, and tickled her stomach. She giggled and grabbed one of my fingers. I smiled and kissed the top of her head.

"I think I found my baby." I said to the woman. She smiled and led me into another room to fill out the paper work.

I cradled the baby against my chest as I filled everything out. I hadn't named her yet. I was going to leave her name up to Rosalie. After filling everything out I carried the baby out to my car. The woman had given me a carseat to put in my car. I strapped the baby into it, climbed into the front seat, and began driving home.

Once I got home I just stood by my car for a second, holding my daughter. My daughter. I liked the sound of that. She was still asleep and her little fists were clenched around the fabric of my shirt. I grabbed the blanket she was wrapped in and placed it over her. Now it'll be hard to tell what I'm holding. 'Edward, bring everyone outside.' I thought. Within five seconds everyone was walking out the door.

"Emmett, where have you been all day?" Rosalie asked walking toward me. She suddenly stopped, "Does anyone else hear a heart beat?" "That's your daughter's heart beat." I said. She looked confused, then ran over to me and pulled the blanket away. Her eyes lit up and she smiled that beautiful smile of hers, "Oh Emmett! Is she really mine?" Rosalie squealed, taking the now awake baby from me. "Yupp. I adopted her from an orphange this morning." I answered with a smile. She clutched the baby to her chest and kissed my cheek.

Everyone crowded around us, trying to get a chance to hold the newest member of our family. "What's her name?" Renesmee asked, holding the little girl and playing with her fingers. "I was going to let Rose name her." I answered. Rosalie smiled and stroked the baby's cheek, "What about Aria? Aria Hale Cullen." I smiled and kissed Aria's forehead, "I love it."

Rosalie carried the baby inside with the rest of us following. She sat at the couch while Esme went to make a bottle. I sat next to her and grabbed her waist, while everyone else went to do their own thing. "Do you know how she got put in the orphanage?" Rosalie asked as she began feeding Aria the bottle Esme had just brought her. "Her parents were murdered last night," I answered, "The cops said that the murderers might have been trying to take the baby, but they dropped her when the cops showed up and ran off."

Aria finished the bottle, yawned, and curled up against Rose's chest. "Alice, could you-" "Already did!" Alice announced, cutting Rosalie off, "We have her room ready. It's the room right next to yours and Emmett's." Rosalie smiled at her before walking up the stairs.

I smiled down at Aria as I carried her upstairs. She had been my daughter for maybe thirty minutes but I already loved her more than anything. I finally have the one thing I never thought I could. A child.
