Sure, they totally had everyone convinced that Tara was kidnapped-because why not? Tara really liked Amber, and she wanted to be with her, so she'd come up with the idea all on her own. Amber was pretty impressed.
They were currently in Amber's apartment, the atmosphere charged with playful energy as they fiddled with some kind of shocking machine. Tara's laughter filled the room, each time she touched it eliciting a jolt that made her squeal in delight. The device buzzed and sparked, a strange contraption that looked like it belonged in a mad scientist's lab rather than a cozy apartment.
"Okay, okay, I think you've had enough," Amber said with a chuckle, though she was clearly enjoying Tara's infectious laughter. She leaned in closer, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "What if it really shocks you this time?"
"Oh, come on! Just one more!" Tara pleaded, her cheeks flushed from both the excitement and the electricity buzzing through her. She pressed her finger to the device again, and another wave of giggles erupted from her lips as the machine gave a little zap.
Amber shook her head, unable to suppress her own grin. "You're insane," she said, though there was an undeniable fondness in her tone. "But I like that about you."
Amber had reluctantly let Tara drive her car, despite her better judgment. The thrill of the moment mixed with Tara's eagerness made it hard to resist. But as Tara pressed the brakes a little too hard, the sudden stop caused both girls to lurch forward, their heads bucking as the seatbelts held them back.
Amber shot Tara an apologetic look, her eyes wide with surprise. "What was that for?" she asked, half amused and half annoyed.
"I'm sorry!" Tara exclaimed, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "I didn't mean to-"
But before Amber could finish her thought, she noticed Tara reaching for a button on the dashboard. "No! No!" she cried, but it was too late. Tara had already pressed it.
With a loud whoosh, a rocket shot out from the car, streaking through the air before slamming into a nearby gas pump. The explosion lit up the parking lot, a fiery blast that sent debris flying and startled bystanders running for cover.
"Welp," Tara mumbled, wide-eyed and grinning at the chaos she'd just unleashed. The reality of the moment settled in as the sirens of approaching emergency vehicles filled the air.
The girls were now back in Amber's apartment, sprawled comfortably on her bed. Tara flipped through a picture book filled with memories of Amber's childhood, a playful grin spreading across her face. As she came across a picture of Amber as a baby, sporting adorable little braids, Tara couldn't help but let out an amused laugh.
"Aw!" Tara exclaimed, her eyes lighting up. "Look at you! You're so cute!"
Amber, feeling a wave of embarrassment wash over her, quickly threw a pillow over her head to shield herself from the teasing. "Ugh, stop it!" she groaned, her voice muffled. "I looked ridiculous!"
