The sunlight streamed through the sheer curtains of the lavish bedroom, bathing everything in a golden glow. Bella lay still, her body sinking into the softness of the bed, but her mind was anything but calm. She replayed the events of the night before in her head, Luca's words hanging heavy over her like a storm cloud. Tomorrow, everything changes.

Her eyes fluttered open, the light stinging as she tried to focus on the unfamiliar surroundings. The room was just as grand as it had been the night before, the ornate furniture and fine details an almost suffocating reminder of where she was. But the opulence didn't distract her from the gnawing uncertainty that came with being in Luca's world.

There was a knock at the door, startling her from her thoughts.

"Miss Bella?" A woman's voice called out softly.

Bella sat up, smoothing her hair and trying to compose herself. "Yes?"

The door creaked open, and a middle-aged woman in a neat black dress stepped inside, carrying a tray with breakfast. She placed it gently on the small table by the window, her eyes carefully avoiding Bella's.

"Mr. Moretti asked that I bring you this," she said, her voice polite but distant. "He's waiting for you downstairs whenever you're ready."

Bella's heart skipped a beat. Luca was waiting. For what, she didn't know, but the knot in her stomach tightened at the thought of facing him again. The woman turned to leave, but Bella's voice stopped her.

"What's your name?" Bella asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.

The woman hesitated for a moment, then gave a small smile. "Maria, miss."

"Thank you, Maria," Bella said softly, her nerves softening for a brief moment. But once Maria left, the quiet of the room seemed to amplify her anxiety.

Bella stood, running her hands over the soft fabric of the silk robe someone had left at the foot of the bed. She slipped it on, the cool fabric sliding over her skin like a second layer of armor. She approached the tray, glancing at the untouched breakfast, but her appetite had vanished. Her mind was too busy with questions—about Luca, about what he wanted from her, about what her life had become in just one night.

Taking a deep breath, Bella dressed quickly, choosing a simple black dress she found hanging in the wardrobe. Everything in the mansion seemed tailored to her needs, yet it felt foreign, as if someone had planned every detail of her stay without her knowing.

She made her way downstairs, her steps echoing in the grand hall as she descended. The mansion felt vast and cold in the morning light, its quietness unnerving. Luca had mentioned everything changing, but she hadn't yet grasped what that meant.

As she reached the bottom of the stairs, a figure caught her eye—Luca, standing by the open doors to the garden. He was dressed sharply, as always, his posture relaxed but commanding. When he saw her, a small smile curled on his lips, but it didn't reach his eyes.

"Good morning," he said, his voice smooth as silk.

"Morning," Bella replied, her voice betraying none of the turmoil inside her.

He beckoned her with a slight motion, and she followed him outside into the crisp morning air. The garden was sprawling, manicured to perfection, but there was something almost unnatural about its beauty. It felt too controlled, too pristine—like everything in Luca's world.

Luca walked in silence for a few moments, allowing her to take in the scenery. But Bella could feel the weight of his gaze on her, like he was assessing her, testing her.

Finally, he stopped near a stone bench beneath a blooming tree. He turned to her, his expression unreadable.

"You slept well, I hope," he said, though it was more of a statement than a question.

Bella nodded, even though her sleep had been fitful, her dreams plagued by shadows and whispers of things she couldn't fully understand. "I'm fine."

Luca's eyes flickered with something—approval, perhaps. "Good. Because today, we begin."

"Begin what?" Bella asked, her voice steady despite the unease creeping into her bones.

Luca's gaze darkened slightly, his expression hardening. "Your first test."

Bella's heart skipped a beat. She had expected something like this, but the reality of it made her pulse quicken. "What kind of test?"

Luca's eyes bore into hers, his voice low and controlled. "I told you last night, Bella. This life isn't easy. You'll have to prove you can handle it—handle the weight of what it means to be involved with me."

Her mouth went dry, but she held his gaze, refusing to back down. "And what do I have to do?"

Luca stepped closer, his presence dominating the space between them. "There's a man," he began, his voice calm but chilling. "He owes me a debt. A large one. He's been avoiding me for weeks, thinking he can disappear. But no one runs from me."

Bella's pulse quickened as she listened, her mind racing. Luca continued, his tone growing colder. "I want you to go to him. Deliver a message. Make him understand that he has no more time."

Bella's breath caught in her throat. A message? This wasn't just some verbal warning—she could hear the unspoken threat in his words.

"You want me to... threaten him?" she asked, her voice trembling just slightly.

Luca's smile was cold, almost predatory. "I want you to show him that you represent me now. That you're not someone to be ignored. You don't need to hurt him, Bella—but he needs to believe you will, if necessary."

Her heart pounded in her chest. She had known that staying with Luca meant entering a dangerous world, but she hadn't anticipated being thrown into it so quickly. This was more than just a test—it was a defining moment. If she failed, she wasn't sure what the consequences would be.

"I don't know if I can do that," Bella admitted, her voice barely a whisper.

Luca's eyes softened for the briefest moment, but it was gone as quickly as it appeared. "You can," he said firmly. "I wouldn't ask you if I didn't think you were capable."

He stepped closer, his hand reaching out to gently brush a strand of hair from her face. His touch was surprisingly tender, sending a shiver down her spine. "You wanted to stay, Bella," he murmured. "Now, prove you can."

Bella looked up at him, her heart racing. She didn't know what frightened her more—the man she was about to confront, or the part of her that wanted to please Luca, to prove herself to him. To be more than just a pawn in his world.

"I'll do it," she said softly, her voice steady despite the fear swirling inside her.

Luca smiled, a dark satisfaction in his eyes. "Good. The car will be ready for you in an hour. Maria will give you the details."

He turned to leave but paused for a moment, his back to her. "Remember, Bella. This is your first step. Don't make me regret giving you the chance."

And with that, he disappeared into the mansion, leaving her standing alone in the garden, her mind spinning with the weight of what she had just agreed to.

Bella took a deep breath, steadying herself. She had chosen this path, and now, she would have to walk it—no matter where it led.
