Author's Note:

I know I said in the last one I might not do these at the beginning, but I felt this one needed it.

These other chapters have been about 3600 words each, this one is pushing 5000. I almost kept going, but decided to split it in 2. I apologize if it's too long. In general I think I'll try to keep the chapters around that 3500 mark even if it takes some extra time to write them. I know when I'm reading something I prefer to wait verse get a shorter chapter, it never feels like enough to me. But please let me know!

3. Change of Scenery

10 hours of painting. That's what Quinn had signed up for was 10 hours of painting. So simple, not too overly labor intensive like some of the other things they did. Instead she got a few hours of painting, followed by a delivery of new appliances for one of the apartments they were working, followed by more painting to round out the day. It took Quinn, Kevin, and the very inexperienced appliance delivery man 2 and half hours to get the new kitchen range and refrigerator up the stairs to the 3rd floor. Thankfully 7pm had come around they had finished what they needed to and Quinn was able to head home.

Ready to be done with the day Quinn planned to get home and take a quick shower before just throwing something random together for dinner and calling it a night. But today had not gone to plan for her at all. As Quinn turned on to the street for her apartment complex she got a call from someone unexpected.

Paige. Or as her contact name read "P Buckets 🏀"

Quinn froze for a second not sure what to make of it before picking up the phone.

"Hello?" She asked very uncertain, almost sure it had to have been a butt dial.

"QUINCY! Thank god" Paige yelled into the phone, panic clear in her voice "Hey I'm so sorry to call you like this, but you're the only person I could think of who could help"

"Woah what's wrong" Quinn asked pulling into her parking space. She was concerned but not worried it was something catastrophic yet.

"Dude I can't even fully explain right now but our toilet is overflowing and the shower head is like spraying water everywhere. It's a whole mess bro can you help? Emergency maintenance isn't answering and the shit is starting to flood"

"Fuck, yeah I got you" Quinn was glad to still be in her work clothes, her bigger tool belt sitting in her duffle in her passenger seat. She grabbed her duffle and quickly got out of the car.

"Thank you. Were at the Hilltop Halls complex, are you far from there" Quinn had to stop herself from laughing as she walked up to the door to badge herself in.

"No, it's your lucky day. I'm there right now, what apartment are you in" Quinn asked making her way over to the elevators. There were 13 buildings in the complex but since Quinn had lived in the same one as the basketball players for the last few years she knew she was already in the right building.

"Are you serious? That's amazing. Building 7, 3rd floor, apartment 25"  Paige took a deep breath, panic still clear in her voice.

"Again your lucky day" Quinn said stepping on the elevator "I'm in building 7 now. I just got in the elevator I'll be there in like 20 seconds" she hit the '3' button for the third floor and up it went.
