"(y/n)," Steve whispers, wrapping his arms around your waist from behind, his face nuzzling into the crook of your neck. "What do you think about... starting a family?"

He was getting you flowers for your wedding anniversary when a family of three caught his eye. It was a nice sight and he watched with both admiration and jealousy. He's always wanted to start a family with you but never asked, afraid you'll say no. And now that the question left his mouth, he prays that you want the same.

"What a great conversation starter," you chuckled softly, you fingers gently running through his blonde locks. "I think... I'd want nothing more."

Steve froze, his arms holding you just a little bit tighter. "Yeah?" He asked carefully, his breathing laboured and his head still buried in your neck.

He wanted to believe you, really he did, but it's been years since you mentioned anything about starting a family. And he never wanted to push you for an answer, too terrified to ruin your relationship. And now you'd just said yes? He didn't want to get his hopes up just in case you were just being polite.

Hearing the uncertainty in his voice, you chuckled and turned around, wrapping your arms around his neck. You leaned your head against his chest, listening to his heartbeat for a moment. "I'm serious, silly," you murmured, running a hand up and down his back in an attempt to soothe him. "I do... I really want to start a family with you."

Steve let out a sigh of relief, his shoulders visibly relaxing as your touch, and as your words, eased his worries. "Really?" He repeated again and you chuckled, nodding your head.

His arms tightened around you, holding you close, his face burying into your neck again. "Oh thank god," he whispered quietly, his lips lightly pressing against your skin. He couldn't believe it, you actually wanted to start a family with him. He couldn't help but start grinning. "I love you, you know that, right?"

"Of course I know that," you said, a smile growing on your face. You pulled back gently, cupping his face with your hands and forcing him to look at you. "I love you, too."

You could practically see the joy and excitement in his eyes as your words sunk in. The idea of you, him, and a child... It sounded perfect.

Steve practically melted against your touch, his hands moving from your waist to hold onto your wrists. He leaned into your touch, nuzzling further into the palms of your hand with a small smile.

In another situation, you could've thought he looked like a puppy, with the way he was looking at you. His eyes sparkled with adoration as he mumbled, "I can't wait," his voice soft and almost childish in his excitement.

"Slow down a bit, Stevie," you laughed, your thumbs stroking the sides of his face. "Let's take it slow, okay?" He looked like he was about to protest but you covered his mouth with your hand. He huffed, pouting at you as he pulled your hand off his face. "I know you're excited," you spoke before he could say anything. "But one step at a time, yeah? Like me getting off birth control first."

Steve grumbles against your hand, but he knows you're right. They both needed to take it slow. And although he was incredibly excited, and maybe a little turned on, he knew that you were doing the right thing.

"I still stand by what I said," he muttered, his hands moving from your wrists to your hips, pulling you close against him. "I can't wait. Can you blame me?"

"I'd be more surprised if you didn't," you replied with a smirk. You wrapped your arms around his neck, leaning against him again.

You stayed like that for a few moments, simply enjoying each other's presence. It was peaceful—until your stomach growled.
