At the party, Mr. Kim found himself cornered by Jin, Namjoon, Taehyung, and Mrs. Kim. They had finally managed to pull him away from the throngs of guests, but the atmosphere was tense. Jin, trying to mask his frustration, broke the ice.
"Appa, what are they doing here?" he asked, his tone light but his eyes betraying concern.
Mr. Kim straightened his tie, a hint of pride in his voice. "I've struck a business deal with Ren Myoi to expand our operations in Japan."
Taehyung raised an eyebrow, "You couldn't find anyone else to partner with? Really?"
Namjoon jumped in, a serious note lacing his voice. "But Appa, you know about Jin hyung and Hana, right? Their history... How could you do this?"
Mr. Kim waved a dismissive hand. "I want to clear the air. I've heard whispers that Hana dumped Jin for Ren Myoi, and I refuse to let my son appear weak in anyone's eyes."
Jin's heart sank as he listened. "Appa, it's not about how I look to others. This is about feelings. You don't get it."
Mr. Kim continued, oblivious to his son's feelings. "I want to show everyone that nothing happened between them. Striking this deal will prove that Jin and Hana never had anything"
Jin's expression hardened. "Appa, You think I care about business deals more than how I feel?"
Taehyung exchanged a glance with Namjoon, sensing the tension rising. Mrs. Kim looked torn, wanting to support her husband's success but also sensing the hurt in her son's voice.
"Jin, this is important," Mr. Kim insisted, his tone firm but tinged with desperation.
"No, Dad, what's important is that you care about me and what I want. Not just what people say" Jin shot back, his voice slightly rising
Silence hung in the air, and Mr. Kim's expression faltered for a moment, caught off guard by his son's words but he quickly masked it with a stern demeanor.
"We're doing this for the family," he replied, but his words felt hollow.
Jin looked away, hurt, realizing that the man he had hoped would understand him was more concerned with appearances than emotions. As the laughter and chatter resumed around them, he felt isolated, grappling with the weight of his father's intentions and his own unresolved feelings.
Jin pushed through the crowd, feeling the weight of the party pressing down on him. He mumbled something about getting a drink when Hoseok and Yoongi tried to follow. "I just want to be alone for a bit," he said, his tone sharp.
He found a quiet corner and poured himself a drink, the liquid burning as it went down. Just as he took a deep breath to steady himself, Hana approached him once again,
"Jin, can we talk? I'm really sorry about everything," she said, with a fake tone
"Keep your sorry to yourself," he replied coldly, turning away. But she stepped closer, attempting to bridge the distance.
"Jin, please—"
"Just leave-"
He jerked away, the movement sudden and desperate. In his haste, he accidentally caught his hand on a jagged piece of glass from a broken bottle nearby. Pain shot through him, but he gritted his teeth, unwilling to show weakness in front of her.
"Are you okay?" she asked, fake concern flickering in her eyes.
"Don't act like you care about me. Just leave me alone," he snapped, pushing past her
As Jin pushed past Hana, he felt the sting of anger mingling with the sharp pain in his hand. He didn't want to deal with her or anyone else right now.
As he moved through the crowd, he spotted Jimin, Jungkook and Taehyung near the edge of the party, their expressions shifting from laughter to concern as they caught sight of him.
