Finally arriving back home, you felt utterly exhausted. The long walk in the snow had completely drained you and you crashed into the armchair.

After a few minutes of lying there, you got back up and took out your new clothes from their bag. You carefully folded them and placed them in a neat pile next to your bed. Then, happy with your work, you went to add a log to the fireplace.

Logan had just gotten back in, carrying a large stack of logs, which he laid next to the small pile already inside. He shrugged off his heavy, snow-dampened coat and, with a quick tug, pulled his sweater over his head, relishing the warmth of the cosy fire crackling in the hearth. For a second, you caught sight of his lower stomach and the trail of dark hair that covered it, contrasting with the smoothness of his skin.

You quickly averted your gaze back to the fire and replaced a strand of loose hair behind your ear. You looked back to the bookshelf you had first noticed when you had arrived weeks ago and noticed a deck of cards you hadn't seen before.

'Why do you have cards if you usually live alone?' You asked, focusing your attention back on him.

'I sometimes play on my own,' he answered. 'Have you ever heard of solitaire?'

'No,' you said. 'Could you teach me?'

He grabbed the deck of cards and sat down next to you, shuffling the cards and placing them on the table.

As he displayed the different cards in the deck, explaining their colours and meanings, you found yourself occasionally stealing glances at his exposed bicep, which was tantalizingly close to you. You hid the smile that menaced to show on your lips and focused back on the game.

A few hours later, you finally slipped into bed. The fire had nearly died out and Logan settled on his chair.

For a second, you almost asked him if he'd rather not sleep with you, but shyness held your mouth shut, and you closed your eyes, letting sleep gain you.

You were woken up by a scream of anguish. You bolted up, and in the near complete darkness, failed to comprehend what was going on. But as your mind cleared from sleep, you realised that Logan was only fighting his inner turmoil again.

You shuffled out from under the covers and leaned over him, approaching your hand towards his twitching arm.

'Logan...' you whispered, but before your fingers could reach him, his claws slashed right through your chest.

You gasped as the cold metal pierced your flesh and organs, and you felt the warm touch of blood escape your body. His eyes finally opened and instantly, he retracted his claws, but you felt your knees weaken and you fell to the ground. In a second, he'd realised what he'd done.

'Y/n! I'm so sorry you weren't- I-' he stuttered hysterically, falling off his chair and pressing his hand over your wound.

You tried to keep your breathing as calm as possible as you tried to focus on something else than the pain. Slowly, your flesh re-generated and the blood finally stopped flowing.

'It's alright Logan, I'm... I'm fine,' you said, placing your hand over his until he moved it away. Your fingers brushed over your new skin, tugging slightly at the ripped fabric to cover yourself.

'I could have killed you...,' he muttered. 'This.. this is exactly why I didn't want to take you in in the first place.'

'Logan this is not your fault, you didn't do it on purpose,' you said, placing a hand on his shoulder.
