Three months had flown by since our wedding night, three months that also brought us to five months into our pregnancy. The baby was growing stronger each day, his kicks becoming more pronounced, sometimes folding me in half with their intensity, but I cherished every moment of it. San had made a bold career switch, now training to be a police officer, and I must admit, he looked irresistibly handsome in his uniform. His broad shoulders and confident stance made my heart flutter every time I saw him.
On this early afternoon, I found myself fussing over the nursery, trying to fight off the boredom that settled in with San's longer work hours. I hummed a tune, standing on a small ladder with a picture frame in hand, stretching to hang it just right on the freshly painted wall. A proud smile crossed my face as I stepped back to admire my handiwork.
Turning around, I continued to tweak the details of the room, adjusting a fluffy teddy bear in the cot, pushing my hair back behind my ear. Just as I reached for another small decoration, I felt a pair of strong arms wrap around my waist.
Startled by the sudden embrace, I instinctively relaxed as I recognized the familiar touch. The warmth of his body against mine instantly melted away any lingering stress from the day.
"Guess who?" San's voice was playful, his breath warm against the nape of my neck.
"I think I might have a slight clue," I replied, my voice laced with amusement as I leaned back into him. His presence was a comforting and grounding force, especially now, as our baby grew and our lives shifted to accommodate this new joy.
"You've been busy," he commented, his hands gently roaming over the curve of my belly, feeling the slight movements from within. "Looks amazing in here."
I turned within his arms to face him, smiling up into his eyes. "It's getting there. Just waiting for its little occupant to arrive." The nursery, with its soft pastel colors and the gentle afternoon light filtering through the window, felt like a dream transformed into reality.
San kissed my forehead softly, his eyes reflecting the same joy and anticipation I felt. "And how are my two favorite people doing today?" he asked, his hand still resting gently on my stomach, hoping for a kick as if to greet him.
"Active and very much in decorating mode," I teased, reaching up to adjust his collar playfully. "But we missed you. It's not the same without you around."
He grinned, his eyes twinkling with happiness. "Well, I'm here now, and I've got the rest of the day off. How about we finish this room together and then maybe take a walk? I think someone," he patted my belly lightly, "needs to hear about the adventures outside."
"That sounds perfect," I said, my heart swelling with love for the life we were building. Just as we turned to add the finishing touches to the nursery, a sudden sharp kick from the baby made us both pause and laugh.
