I jolted awake to the sound of my alarm blaring at 9 AM, the realization hitting me like a wave—today was the day. Leo was picking me up in two hours, and I had a million things to do. I quickly reached for my phone, my heart racing as I clicked on Spotify and blasted my favorite playlist, the upbeat tunes flooding my room with energy.
I hopped out of bed and headed straight for the bathroom, turning the shower to the hottest setting. I needed an everything shower—cleaning up, shaving, washing my hair. The hot water cascaded over me, and I let my thoughts drift to Leo: that smile, the way his eyes sparkled when he talked. I couldn't help but feel a flutter of excitement in my stomach.
By the time I emerged from the steam-filled oasis, I glanced at the clock and gasped. 10:15 AM?! Panic surged through me as I scrambled to get ready. My mind raced through what I needed: a killer outfit, something that screamed "I'm fun, flirty, and totally ready for whatever adventure Leo had planned."
I flung open my closet doors, rifling through the hangers until I spotted it: my cute leopard print strapless bikini. I slipped it on, admiring how it hugged my body. Throwing on my favorite denim shorts, I layered a white tube top over the bikini, feeling both stylish and comfortable. Next, I slipped into my pink Converse, the vibrant color matching my mood perfectly.
I grabbed my tote bag, quickly stuffing it with essentials: lip balm, a book for potential downtime, sunscreen for the inevitable sun, and my digital camera because, let's be real, I had to document whatever shenanigans unfolded today.
Feeling a rush of confidence, I gave my reflection a quick wink and sprinted downstairs. I still had a few minutes to spare, and I wanted to soak up every second of the excitement bubbling inside me. Today was going to be special, and I was determined to enjoy every moment.
I bounded down the stairs, excitement pulsing through my veins. As I entered the kitchen, the smell of coffee greeted me, and my dad looked up from the newspaper, his brow furrowed.
"Why are you up so early on your day off?" he asked, his voice laced with concern. "You should be sleeping in, taking it easy."
I waved a dismissive hand, trying to sound casual. "I'm just meeting up with some friends, Dad. It's all good."
He put down the paper, leaning back in his chair, a look of paternal worry spreading across his face. "I just want to make sure you're taking care of yourself. You've been working hard at Coastal Cove, and it's important to listen to your body. You know that. If you're feeling fatigued at all, just—"
"Dad," I interrupted, trying to stifle a grin. "I promise I'm fine. I've got plenty of energy today. Plus, it's just a casual hangout. I'll be back before you know it."
He leaned forward, fingers interlaced. "I know you say that, but I just worry, River. It's important to rest and recharge. You don't want to overdo it, especially when you're—"
My phone buzzed on the counter, interrupting him. I snatched it up and saw Leo's name flashing on the screen. **Hey! Just pulled up outside. Can't wait to see you!**
"Okay, Dad, I really have to go now," I said, trying to keep my voice light.
Before he could respond, I rushed over and wrapped my arms around him in a tight hug. "Stop worrying so much. I'm an adult, remember?"
He chuckled softly, returning the embrace. "Yeah, but you're my daughter, and I'm always going to worry. Just promise you'll be careful."
"I promise!" I called back as I dashed for the door.
With one last glance over my shoulder at my dad, who wore a mix of affection and concern, I slipped out the door and into the bright sunshine. The moment I stepped outside, I spotted Leo leaning against his car, a wide smile spreading across his face. My heart skipped a beat. Today was going to be amazing.
