mid day, the hot sun landed on empty desk some students failed to fill. tapping the blue ink pen on her desk, she tutted her lips into a sly smirk and analyzed the true components that sum up to x-yz or whatever the paper read. if she was being honest, the only thing on her mind was the beach.
the hot sand on her freshly painted white toenails, the cold water fighting to reach her soft legs. her salt water filled eyes watching the waves scoop up her friends. the sun beaming down like a wild sunflower-
ping.
looking around the room, her eyes peered on the pinging sound that continued. where was it? it wasn't hers..
oh.
asahi toyed with his phone in the back of the class, his wince audibly loud as another ping came. his fingers searching for the silence button, but he was too nervous and embarrassed to even fiddle with it the right way.
" s-sorry. " visibly flushed, he finally tucked the phone away and shifted in his seat from the stares. she gave him a side smile, feeling bad for the quietness it brought after the teacher went on again about the matter at hand.
joining- no actually being unknowingly placed into the 'volleyballer's' group chat made her aware of two things constantly. never have your notifications on during classes and never, ever, ever! unmute it unless you are off the school grounds. it's just not safe.
one time she was staying late to finish her literature test; it was a simple look over. she always liked being cautious. she ended up being one of the last ones out. she didn't finish checking the full page and decided she probably needed to turn her phone back on to let her mom and tobio know.
well, that required going to the teacher's desk and asking for it. mister teoko is one of her favorite teachers to walk this earth. he's so chill and laid back and when it came to alerting parents he was always on his stuff. so, it was no problem when she asked and texted her mom quickly...
then she sat the phone on the desk again.
it hadn't alarmed her when the first ping came in, nor the second. it was probably her mom, she said and continued trailing her pencil down the paper like normal. until they became layered over each other. message after message flashed in the view of mr. teoko, his eyes widening from the conversations being held in such a group chat with some of his students.
let's just say she always double-checks questions quicker now and that group chat is never unmuted until she steps into her own sanitary.
after class ended, she stood up and popped her muscles. the immediate relief made her mouth slightly part and her ears pop. after getting those few seconds of peace, she reached down and packed her things up. a familiar long, brown haired boy passes by her.
" hey asahi. "
" yeah? " turning around, he clung onto his off the shoulder bag. his tan face still red. poor guy.
" you have practice today? " she asks, already knowing the answer. she continued packing her notebook inside of her book-bag, the notion locked so tight into her brain she's able to keep eye contact with him.
" yep. " he replies, readjusting his own bag.
she smiles, finishing her task. " can i walk with you? " asahi's eyelids lift gently, his lips seemingly copying her grin. he nods and steps to the side with care. " of course. "
