My heart is beating faster than usual, it is pounding, I can hear the sound in my ears. A weird feeling of urgency floods my body, freely traveling through every single fiber of my being. Fear, there's fear too... But it's not mine. The strong feelings pull me awake from my sleep, everything around me is dark, I take a quick look around and analyze my surroundings as best as I can. Everything looks exactly the same as when I went to sleep, if I'm not the one in trouble then that means... Leah.
I get on my feet as fast as I can my own fear flooding me as I realize that if she called me, she must be in trouble, it's not easy for her to get into trouble that she cannot face herself, this is bad... very bad. My leathers stick to my skin as I put them on, the fear is making me sweat uncontrollably. In a matter of seconds, I'm outside the warded cave where I slept for the last thousand years. It is cold outside, not cold enough to freeze the lake next to the cave, but cold enough to make me regret not bringing a coat with me. I spread my wings, giving my muscles a moment to wake up. I know where she is, and she knows where I am. I have to fly thirty minutes south to reach her. A new wave of her hits me, it is fear mixed with... pain, sharp pain from an arrow? Arrows are not supposed to hurt her, why is she feeling the pain of an arrow?
A new wave of sharp pain flows through me almost making me fall. Rage fills me up, from head to toes, who the fuck is hurting her? I shoot to the sky in a matter of seconds, cold air biting my face, but it doesn't matter it won't hurt me, not like those arrows are hurting Leah right now. More sharp pain... I can feel it all over my body now, I look at my right forearm where the tattoo that ties us together shines brightly. I fly faster and faster, as I approach the southernmost vale I can see two armies. A war? Both armies are standing behind their wards, there is a small space in between them, and I see a blurry body lying there... three arrows protruding from it, that can't be Leah, arrows can't hurt us, these lesser beings don't have anything capable of hurting us. As I approach that tiny space in between wards I see her... Her face is filled with pain, terror and... blood. The sight makes me stop my wing's beating immediately making me plumet to the ground, I don't care enough to land on my feet. I meet the ground headfirst, then my body follows. I stand up and run to Leah's body, there is a puddle of blood around her. Her face fills with hope when she sees me, she tries to hide the pain behind a weak smile, she knows I can see right through it, but she is still trying. I pick her up in my arms like she is weightless. "Who did this? How did they manage to hurt you?" I inspect her face, her body as best as I can and take her back into the wards of the people that I recognize as the five kings. "I thought you were dead" her voice is barely a whisper, red dark blood is coming out of her mouth, staining her pale lips. As soon as we enter the wards, I summon a long, comfortable brown leather couch, and gently lay her there. "I'm here, I'm alive" I take her hand in mine and lead it to my chest stopping when they're on top of my heart. "I'm here" I look at the arrows on her body. God, she looks so... different, I conjure a light-shedding sphere right above us, I look at her face again and she looks even worse, then I look at the side of her head right were the hair falls behind her ear it's... pointy? I can't hide the confusion from showing on my face. "A lot changed" she says as she continues struggling. "I can tell... you'll have time to tell me later, I promise. Now there is only one thing that matters, and it is you" I concentrate on her broken body and spread a numbness around her, making the pain in her subside, then I take the arrows out, and clean the wounds. The tips of the arrows were poisoned, I can see the remnants of the thick blue liquid there. My hands go to her wounds and force them to heal in a matter of seconds, no scars no nothing, almost like it never happened, only her suffering remains.
Now that she is safe, I have a new mission, make them pay for what they did to her, for making her suffer, for even daring to try and poison her, for making her feel terror for making her feel defenseless. I walk towards the edge of the wards and extend my wings, I throw my arms in the air pointing to the sky, concentrating all the energy in me to a single spot in between my hands. It is hot, shiny and so goddamn destructive. I target what seems to be the first line of defense of the enemy army. A dark fog spreads through their lines, it is a dark amethyst shade, at first it doesn't do anything to them, and I didn't intend it to... not yet. Once it has spread to the center of their lines, surrounding every single one of their soldiers I let my wrath consume me, the fog becomes a lighter shade of amethyst with tiny shiny golden sparks. The enemy starts to drop to the ground like the pest they are, they reach for their throats, their noses, their eyes, but those are all inutile efforts. They were doomed from the moment they stepped foot on these grounds, from the moment they tried to kill her. Blood starts to flow from their eyes, nose, mouth and ears. There's nothing they can do to stop it. I locate the king of the enemy forces; he is the one who gave the order to kill her... I take a few steps before I take off and blast towards the king whom I left unscathed of my prior attack. The only blood staining his intricate coat and leathers is the one from his soldier who died around him. He seems unfazed. That façade only makes them more enjoyable, the way it slowly shatters with their bones only makes me want to continue breaking them until they are nothing, but a mix of red goo and shattered bones contained inside a satchel of skin.
