ALANISE

The house was unnervingly quiet when they returned, hours after the muffled screams had finally stopped.

Cohen with a phone on her ear, Sage, Gideon, and Max strode into the living room as if nothing unusual had happened, their faces calm, almost bored.

"Just take him to the hospital and make sure that no one will stride, clean the torture room— I don't want to see any article spreading tomorrow or else you'll be disposed too" Cohen's voice rang out as she put the phone down after giving her command to someone over the phone.

The stark contrast between their cruel actions and their calm demeanor sent a shiver down my spine.

Max's eyes locked onto mine immediately. Her eyes —that possessive glint, the smirk that made me feel more like a trapped animal than a person.

I swallowed the lump in my throat and forced a small smile.

"Alanise" Max called out, her voice dripping with false sweetness. "Come here."

For a second, my body hesitated, instinct urging me to run, to hide, but I caught myself. I took a deep breath and crossed the room, my heart pounding with each step.

As I approached her, Max's hand shot out and grabbed my wrist, pulling me onto her lap. Her touch was firm, claiming me, and I suppressed the wave of disgust rising in my chest.

"Nakakainip kanina," She whispered into my ear, her breath hot against my skin. "I missed you."

"Hmm" I hummed the nervousness away, willing my voice to sound affectionate.

I pressed a kiss to her cheek, I felt her smile, feeling her arms tighten around my waist in response.

"Does your shoulder still hurt?" She asked with an eerie gentle tone.

I gulped as I glanced at her "A little" I answered, carefully. Inside, I wanted to scream, but I forced myself to remain calm.

Max places a kiss on it as I felt her fingers playing with my hair, her breath against my neck as she inhaled my scents.

"Your fragrance calms me" She whispered as I stay still, letting her do what she wants.

If I weren't forced to be here to witness how affectionate she is— maybe I would be flattered just like the other couples.

I glanced over at the others. Cohen was beside Jen, her arm casually draped over her shoulders, but Jen's eyes were far away.

Sage had pulled Maila into a similar embrace, while Gideon stood behind Shane, her hand resting possessively on Shane's shoulder.

Everyone was playing their part, just like we had agreed.

"So, what's been going on here while we were...busy?" Max asked, her tone deceptively light, though I could sense the dangerous edge beneath it.

"Nothing much" I said, keeping my voice steady. "We were just waiting for you all to come back."

Max's fingers traced along my arm, and I had to fight the instinct to pull away. "Good girl," She murmured, kissing my neck. "I like that you know your place. I'll give you a reward later"
