(Casper pov. A few hours after the ambush)

This is bad. The camp was attacked and overwhelmed by Westburrow soldiers. Many of our soldiers were injured, but Zahra isn't among them. I know I saw her wings in the chaos of it all, but no one is willing to even listen to me. For all I know, she could've been captured by them. Kriace keeps telling me that she's most likely dead at this point. Gods, I feel like I'm going crazy.

I know for a damn fact she can survive something like this. Hells, I've seen her take down the strongest soldiers we have in a sparring match. I refuse to believe she's dead.

"Casper, you're going to make yourself dizzy with all that pacing," a voice says, snapping me out of the blizzard that occupies my mind. The voice comes from another nurse in my unit, a Sparrow with a knack for calming people down. "I know, I'm just worried about her," I say with a sigh, sitting on the ground to stop myself from pacing anymore.

"I know you are," Alouette replies, placing a sympathetic hand on my shoulder. "But Zahra is a strong woman. I'm sure she's alright, wherever she ended up." "You're right," I say, giving her a sad smile. "But she's not the kind of person to just abandon us like that. There's no way she's gone."

Alouette sighs, knowing she isn't going to get through to me no matter how hard she tried. "I believe you, alright?" she says finally. "I just hate to see you so bothered by this. Just promise me you'll at least try to get some rest." I nod, my gaze downcast as she stands up to leave, giving me one last smile before walking away.

I sit in silence for a few minutes, the sounds of the night the only thing breaking the otherwise quiet night. I eventually get up and make my way over to my new sleeping quarters, not bothering to acknowledge the people around me.

I let out a heavy sigh as I plop down on my bed, my wings sprawled out on either side of me. I know you're okay, Zahra. I'll find you, I promise, I think just as I fall asleep.
