Chloe's p.o.v
Four years earlier.
Pious Specialist Hospital.
"Poor child." One of the nurses at the reception desk, mumbled quietly to her college. She just came out of a ward, so she must be talking about the patient.
"Please fill this form." Another nurse passed a file to mom, I glanced around the hospital mindlessly.
The glass door pull apart for people to pass, doctors and nurses rushing about. Some patients were moving around to exercise their bones, in all the hustling and bustling here I am standing besides my mom waiting for us to check out.
My brother had an allergic reaction, good thing I was home to help him, hence we might be hearing a different story.
"What child." I heard the nurse attending to us asking the other one.
"The pregnant lady that came all by herself a while ago." She reminded, I guess the nurse noded in response. "She gave birth through C-section just now, she and her baby might not make it out alive." That spark my interest, I turned around in time to see the nurse shaking her head sadly.
"Why?" The other nurse probe for more information, thankfully.
"The mother lost a lot of blood, couple with the fact that she had complications during the pregnancy and was advised against keeping the baby, but she insisted." The nurse explained. " And the baby also don't have blood, it's drained from not having a lot of nutrients."
I mean I can't blame her, she must be a woman full of love to give to not want to hurt her baby. That child should be lucky to have her as its Mom.
"What about her family members? They can save the child at least."
"Yeah, we call her brother and he's on his way, but I don't think child can wait." As I listened to their conversation, I can't help but feel some certain way.
Restless, yes that's how I'm feeling.
I was bothered, concerned about them. Child birth is not an easy task, it's not something to joke about with. And no one will wish this kind of situation on their self or their close ones.
What if the brother didn't make it on time? He will have to come here and meet his sister and baby lifeless, that's going to be the most heart wrenching situation.
"What's the child's blood type." I shock myself too when I asked that question.
"What?" The nurses looked dumbfounded at my question. Obviously not expecting me to be listening to the conversation.
"The child's blood type." I repeat.
"O negative." The nurse said recovery from her shocked state.
This child wants to live, it just so happens that I am also O negative. I believe God brought me to the hospital in disguise to save this child's life, and I'm glad I asked.
"I want to donate, I'm O negative too. Can I?" Mom held my hand on the desk, I thought it was to stop me from donating. But the tender caressing on my hand told me that she supports me.
"Yes, of course. We just have to do some checkups to see if you're healthy enough." She answered urgently.
"That's fine." I replied.
"Please come with me." She spoke smiling happily, like I am about to save her child instead. I knew if she had the same blood type with the child, she would have donated immediately.
"Are sure darling?" Mom whispered, holding my shoulder. I nod at her, I can't be more fullfilled if I can save a soul.
"Okay, we will wait for you here." She breath out softly and kissed my forehead.
Mom is a volunteer for any thing, she believes that the little kindness you show to someone might save you one day. She's always willing to render her help if need be, and also encourages my brother and I too.
If she has superpowers, I believe she would save the world. But since she don't have superpowers, she helping as much people as she can.
I followed the nurse, she directed me to a room. I sat on the bed waiting for them to finish with their tests.
After a while she came in smiling brightly, carrying a white paper which I assume is the result.
"You're clean dear, and can donate to the child." She grinned.
"Thank God." I breathe out relieved.
She took my blood, placed a cotton wool over the place where the needle was, and asked me to hold it in. She cleaned up the tiny wound with disinfectant, while another nurse took the blood to where it's needed.
"You're all good." She told me, passing an energy drink to me. "Are you feeling weak? Dizzy?"
"No, I feel fine." I replied, I actually feel fine, no form of weakness or dizziness.
"You're strong and kind too. Not everyone will want to donate their blood, and especially not for free." She praised.
What gain would I have to charge a newborn for a chance to live, I would do it again if I had to. I just hoped this child grow to help others too.
I smiled back at her.
"Here's the donation form, you can fill in your details if you want the family to know you." She handed me the form.
"Of course." I would want to see the child in the near future. I filled out the form and returned it to her.
"Also the mother wants to meet you." She informed, I also want to meet the mother of this child. The mother that might not live to nurture her child to adulthood, she lost that opportunity even before she could have it.
It's just so sad and heartbreaking.
"I would love to meet her too."
