Book was on the metro, waiting for the next stop for her. It'd been a while since everything was fixed up. Yoyle City had nobody for a long time before they came in. Yoyle Transit was old, even though it looked quite modern. It smelled of grease and cherries.
The time passed along as nothing seemed to be moving at all and gray. Book pulled out her phone to text Ice Cube about it. She was planning on telling her close to before the meeting she had, but Book was impatient enough. "Subway is taking a while to arrive," she entered in. No response, Ice Cube probably hadn't checked her phone yet.
After a while, Book's stop was called out by the announcement. She walked in the subway car and as the doors closed, the screeching noise began. Almost, calming.
Book must've fallen asleep as the time seemed to pass quicker than ever and she found herself somewhere else. She couldn't catch the part saying where she was, but this certainly wasn't by the workplace.
Oh.
It was already bad enough, no point waiting for another round and she'd most likely missed it, so Book had decided to just walk back to her apartment.

The door of a small bakery sprang open and a voice exclaimed. "Hey Gaty. How have you been?" On the cashier counter of the store was Taco. Thursdays weren't usually busy days for it.
"Oh, hi Taco! It's been fine, you know." She turned around to look at the window. "I was actually just trying to escape the rain, big thunderstorm." The tables were set neatly and the gate, now in a chair continued. "How about a few cupcakes to eat inside?"
The interior was designed with a color scheme of yellow and gray. "Sure." Taco walked into a door to grab them. It was a large room filled with pastries in assorted boxes, sorted by type. She picked a light-blue box near the bottom left, grabbed it to take and returned.
"Here, take any you like," Taco clarified. She watched Gaty grab two lemon cupcakes and waited a moment to respond. "Is there anything else you'd like to get?" she added.
"No, that's all."
"Alright." There was a slight pause before continuing. "That is 5 dollars." she said calmly.
"Okay, here you go!"
Gaty held the box and sat down.
"Lollipop isn't here; she's been feeling sick today. Been some fever going around or something."
"Oh. Hope that clears up for her and everyone else."
"Yeah."

There was a flare through the early dawn in an old room. It was dusty, with a a small water fountain that nobody had bothered to use but every other installment was a cluttered mess. The ceiling was bumpy; popcorn-like.
Waking someone up, room light shone through a crack of the window. Somebody else was already there standing, holding a piece of paper.
"What... did you pick that up? There could be mold in it, this place looks horrible, now that I'm paying attention."
"It looks weird, I just had to look at it." hands let go of the paper and it fell onto the ground with that.
"Well, what was it?"
"An instructions sheet. Only one page— couldn't really get much context from it."
"Oh. Now what? Make an effort to clean up this place? Nobody could even be here, not even temporarily. Not like we can move anywhere else."
Noise drifted off, feeling bleak for a long time. "Yeah," was the final reply before they started to make plans.
