"And that's the story of how I got the shadow dragons curse." The two kids in front of me had looks of shock as they looked beside themselves the grave of my uncle with flowers. The sweet scent of the breeze blew past me sending a sense of hope in my mind. For years we have been safe with nothing daring to destroy our peace.
Due to the incident with Iko kingdoms from across the nation have asked to have some of my family members to move over to theirs and help fight against any signs of dragons. It worked out a lot better then I expected and now a few of my cousins have children and my family happily adopted Comio and his sister Rinida. Comio is currently thirty four and sadly I'm forty two.
So much had happened and yet I have little time so explain it all. One thing that has happened is that Comio is currently in the process of being married, Motolo is a Zorion, and Jackora is married to Olino with a child called Yukota. The two kids in front of me both were Motolo's twins who were talented despite how young they were.
Shiko was his son who was born without an arm but he soon learned ways to hunt that we could never understand. His sister Cadi is quite intelligent for her age. As time went on the family continues to grow and more ways are made to help us hunt dragons. I heard footsteps behind me and I turned to see my parents. Both are now elders but they continue to treat like a child to show that they are in charge until they die. My mother was wearing a white dress with a few flowers decorated into it.
I was glad to see she was happy as when she lost her arm, she began to suffer depression soon after and had nightmares. But she became better and accepted it was time for her to retire. "I see you're scaring the children with the story of the war." I nodded and got up from the ground feeling calm. "Let's get going then. The ceremony is going to start soon." I nodded and looked over to the kids who still looked scared.
We began to walk back to our home. I felt nervous just as I had when I had my own ceremony. I've been in charge of naming the new hunters and the last hunters I named were Shiko and Cadi. As we arrived I walked up to the podium and watched as my relatives arrived. Jackora arrived with her husband along with their daughter who looks like Jackora except with the bright brown eyes she had. Comio walked in with his fiancé and with his sister.
Motolo eventually arrived with his wife and his children. Finally Xedio arrived, he is my aunt Uki's son and my cousin. He was born a few years before she retired and is now sixteen. Xedio is one of the few kids I like as he is interested in learning the history of our family and how it started. However he isn't exactly trusted as he never shows up for patrols or attend ceremonies. It's strange but he is quite unique even if he's a bit disorganized.
I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned to see Sadora with a serious expression. "She's ready." I nodded and carefully touched the leather covering my eye. My family learned what the shadow dragons curse can do but we are still unsure what could happen so we decided to cover my eye for the rest of my life. I may have scarred my eye but it still didn't help.
I chose to ignore it and stood straight ready for the ceremony to start. The ceremony was for Opi's daughter who was born on April nine but she was nervous to allow her daughter to hunt since the incident but we eventually convinced her and Opi is planning to have another baby before she regrets not having more. I heard some whispers and I turned to see the new hunter I am meant to name.
I sighed and beckoned the new hunter over to me. She was shaking but I can see the determination in her eyes. "My dear family, for years it's been nothing but peace. Some of our family have moved to help other kingdoms and some retired after many years of service." I heard some clapping with mutters of approval.
"So it's with great honor that I shall name a new hunter. Adi, will you please step up." The young hunter stood up and looked up at me with curious eyes. her icy blue eyes and brown hair made her stand out like the moon in the day. I looked through my relatives and spotted someone in the back and nodded. "Hilida, I hope you pass down everything you were taught." Hilida is the name of Motolo's fiancée and is named after one of the princesses.
Hilida stood up and walked over to us stopping to stand by Adi. I looked over to Adi full of pride but I froze seeing her hair become white and her eyes become shadows. I felt a cold sweat drop my head and I looked over to the crowd and saw Xedio with the shadow dragons curse. I shook my head and looked back and saw that Xedio was giving me a weird stare. I sighed and looked back at Adi who was shivering. 'This is what he meant.' I thought quickly looking back at my family and sighed. "We are dragon hunters, and we hunt with honor."
