"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather beneath the Redcliff for a clan meeting!" Shardstar yowled from on top of the red boulder.
All the cats emerged from their dens and padded toward their leader's call. Their furs brush against each other as they reach the stone's edge. Cherrykit and her sibling, Sunkit, both crept forward straining to see what the meeting was about. Suddenly, a Striped tail blocked their path and wrapped around them, dragging them close to their mother's belly.
"Oh no you two don't," The she-cat meowed softly, "You can see well enough from here."
"But we want to hear what they are saying!" Sunkit complained, attempting to climb over his mother's tail.
"Shardstar is speaking clearly for everyone. I can hear her just fine, isn't that right Echofall?" She spoke to the dappled tortoiseshell-and-white she-cat. Echofall nodded.
"Of course Leopardleaf, I can also hear her. And I'm sure my kits do too." She purred, looking down at the bundles of fur huddling near her belly.
"They're not even a moon old yet..." Sunkit mutters under his breath.
Leopardleaf's eyes furrowed at Sunkits last remark.
Cherrykit flinched, she didn't want her mother to punish Sunkit again like last time.
"Um..so what do you think it will be about?" Cherrykit quickly asked, hoping to break the tension.
Leopardleaf's face softened. "We're about to find out now." they all looked up at the she-cat, her fur shined in the sunlight as she stood proudly. Cherrykit watched in marvel.
"Cats of Hawkclan, as you may know, there have been sightings of Pineclan cats on our territory. It has been confirmed that they have been hunting on our territory again."
Hisses and yowls of outrage rang in the air. Some cat's fur bristled while others murmured to each other.
"I knew they were going to cause trouble..." Cherrykit heard one of them say to their peers. "Ever since we let them have our prey after the dog attack they've grown more stingy with our territory."
A loud yowl broke out across the clearing then silence fell among the cats. Shardstar then spoke again.
"The Gathering starts tonight and there will be a truce, but that doesn't mean their actions will slide. No, we will tell them our territory is not theirs for the taking!"
"But what if they don't stop hunting in our territory?" A tom asked from the the front.
"Then we will do what we are meant to do as warriors...We fight for it, and show them no mercy!"
The crowd screeched with excitement as Shardstar leaped down to gather her warriors for tonight's gathering. Cherrykit watched with enthusiasm, she couldn't wait to leave the nursery to become an apprentice. The crowd finally dispersed and a red tom padded over to them. Leopardleaf nodded at her mate as he sat down with his tail over his paws.
"I'm assuming you'll be going with them tonight, Hornetclaw?" Leopardleaf asked.
He shrugged. "It's up to Shardstar." he looked back at Shardstar, now talking with the charcoal tabby Tom. "Right now, she's discussing with Birchtail."
Sunkit bounded over to Hornetclaw, Cherrykit followed behind him, almost tripping at her haste.
"Is it true you're going to fight Pineclan?" Sunkit asked excitedly.
Hornetclaw looked down at Sunkit and then bent down toward him.
"That will be decided after the gathering."
