Lyra took a seat between Astoria and Theodore nott, who gave her quick smile. Pansy hurried over to her best friend, Millicent Bulstrode, who is a third year.

The trio were sitting from across Adrian Pucey, Draco, Crabbe and Goyle.

"Did you guys hear?" Goyle snickered as he looked around the Slytherin table. "Harry potter fainted at the train earlier this evening"

Lyra raised an eyebrow at this.

"No fucking way," Daphne laughed, but it was clear she was only trying to gain Theodore's attention.  Lyra loves her friend Daphne, but sometimes she needs to wake up to reality.

Poor girl has been head over hells for the bloke since the first day they met, but something tells Lyra his heart isn't won over, yet.

As cue, the 'golden trio' took their seats by the Gryffindor table, which was right behind Draco's back. Draco being as ignorant as he is, he obviously had to say something to the poor boy.

"Potter," He called out in a hushed tone, before he tried again. "Potter!" He called out again, a bit louder this time. Harry Potter turned around, looking the blonde up and down with a look of disgust.

"Is it true you fainted, like, you actually fainted?" Draco snickered, earning a few chuckles around the Slytherin table. Adrian mimicked a "fainting" expression, only making the situation worse for Potter.

Ron scowled them before placing an arm around Harry's back, as a cue to just ignore the ignorant Slytherins.

Lyra let out a small, low chuckle at Draco's antics, covering her mouth with her hand, trying to hide it.

She wasn't one to be mean-spirited, but something about the rivalry between Potter and Malfoy always managed to amuse her. And Adrian's overdramatic performance.

She straightened herself, quickly stealing a glance at Harry, who looked unfazed but still clearly annoyed by Draco's taunting.

"That was not funny." Lyra spoke out in a serious tone, but as soon as Draco looked at her, with the most violated expression, she couldn't help but smile. He always got so easily offended.

As her eyes flitted around the Great Hall, she caught someone staring directly at her.

Across all the students, Fred's eyes were locked onto hers, his face unreadable for a moment. He must've caught up on her laugher towards his Gryffindor friend, and he never took it lightly when somebody tried to make fun of his mates.

Her stomach dropped at the weight of his gaze, her own expression hardening.

Fred raised an eyebrow, as if challenging her, and that familiar spark of irritation bubbled up inside Lyra. It was almost like a silent dare.

'Twat', Lyra thought.

Of course, she thought bitterly. He always has to make everything into a challenge.

Lyra narrowed her eyes at him slightly, refusing to look away first. She had never been one to back down from a challenge, especially not when it came to a Weasley.

The noise from the hall, the laughter, the sorting hat's ceremony, the conversations. Everything faded into the background as the two of them stared each other down across the Great Hall, neither willing to break the tension.

Fred's smirk finally returned, slowly curling up at the corner of his lips before he looked away, focusing his attention on the sorting hat ceremony. He leaned back casually in his seat, arms across his chest.

"Lyra- you with us?" Astoria nudged her, breaking the moment and pulling Lyra's attention back to the Slytherin table.

She blinked, realising that her friends were looking at her expectantly. "Yeah," she replied quickly, forcing her expression to relax as she tore her gaze away from the Gryffindor table.

"Git." she whispered to herself.

Astoria laughed softly, "You looked like you were trying to set someone on fire with your eyes."

"I agree," Draco chimed in. "And I think she managed to do so, if you take a look at him," Draco snickered, hinting to his orange auburn hair.

Astoria raised an eyebrow at this, before a small, sly smirk crept onto her lips. "Oh? Fred Weasley?" She teased. "You guys need to settle things down soon, you practically can't live without one another."

"No, no. It is nothing like that. I would never stare at him like that. He is just so infuriating." She replied, getting sick from the thought of even liking him at all.

She dared another glance toward the Gryffindor table. Fred was laughing at something George had said, looking completely at ease as though nothing had happened.

"Look, there it is again!" Astoria laughed, "The constant staring, I reckon you've developed a crush after all these years."

"I think I'd rather throw myself of the astronomy tower before something like that would ever happen." Lyra spat back.

"Brilliant, Gryffindors think the whole world spin around them, and them only."  Draco murmured. Ironic, isn't it.

After the ceremony, they all went and found their ways to their house dorms. Lyra, fortunately shared a room with Daphne, Astoria, Pansy and a Millicent Bulstrode. Lyra honestly rarely interacted with her though.

They had all been handed out their timetables. Daphne was almost in all of Lyra's classes, which she was thankful for.

Tomorrow, she has Charms, Transfiguration, Care of magical creatures and finally Herbology.

But, she was too tired to read the rest of her classes for the next days, instead she changed into something far more comfortable, and brushed her teeth, before drifting away into a deep slumber.
