JULIETTE POV

JULIETTE BEAUMONT sat tucked into her double bed, a nest of pillows and cushions cradling her back as she gazed down at the open notebook resting on her knees. the page was a tangled mess of scrawled thoughts, half-formed ideas, and angry lines slashed through sentences that hadn't felt quite right. absentmindedly, she tapped her pen against the paper, her ocean blue eyes lingering on the fractured story, as if her silent plea could coax the words into being.

but they didn't come. the page remained stubbornly, maddeningly blank.

with a frustrated sigh, she let her pen drop onto the bedspread, her fingers brushing through her tousled blonde hair. juliette leaned back against the cushions, allowing herself a moment of stillness, hoping inspiration would strike. not that it did, of course. a noise then drew her attention from her notebook and a soft smile graced her lips.

cinnamon, her ginger cat, was currently making himself comfortable at the foot of her bed. his warm coat a complete contrast to the sky blue aesthetic of her room and she felt his fur brush her bare leg as he moved. cinnamon stretched lazily, his tail flicking as emerald eyes looked up at her with a mixture of curiosity and disdain. almost like he was judging her for her lack of creativity.

"don't look at me like that." the blonde girl said, a hint of laughter in her words. she reached down to scratch him behind his ears and he purred contently at her touch. the cat then got up and moved closer to her before quite literally he fell onto her chest.

juliette laughed again before watching as the feline got himself comfortable once again and she picked up her pen, tapping it against her chin.

the golden light of the late afternoon sun spilled into the room, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air, and she felt a flicker of inspiration. the eighteen-year old grinned down at her feline friend.

"what if I wrote about a cat who dreams of being an explorer?" juliette mused aloud, eyes trained on her cats ginger fur. "a brave little ginger who sails across the seas in search of treasure. and he is the next puss in boots."
