Genya slumped against one of the ships walls, ice pressed against his back. Zenitsu and Kanao were on either side of him, doing the exact same thing. The ice was a short relief from the blistering hot sun beating down on them.
Multiple of the crew had begged for Sanemi to let them anchor at an island so they could take a break and swim in the water to cool off, but he had declined, saying something along the Lines of "we don't have time".

So, they had taken to doing anything to shake the heat. At first, Zenitsu had the idea of hanging around below deck all day, so they could be out of the sun. Turns out it was even worse down there, and they had to race back up within minutes. So Kanao had snuck into the kitchen to grab them a bag of ice each, and they had all stripped off their shirts to lay on it. "How much longer 'till sunset again?"
Zenitsu groaned, wiping strands of hair from his sweat streaked face. Kanao shrugged, and Genya squinted up at the sky. "Atleast an hour." He deduced. Zenitsu sighed dramatically, sinking down onto his ice further. "I'm going to die before then! I'll be cooked!"

Kanao and Genya shared a look, rolling their eyes.
"By all means, go throw yourself overboard. Then I won't have to hear you whine." He snapped.
"How could you say that?!" Zenitsu shrieked. "I thought we were friends!"

"I am not your friend!" Genya threw a piece of ice at the yellow haired boy, hitting him square in the face. "Go die!"

Kanao watched the exchange, wondering if maybe it was too late for her to go find Shinobu and give the two some chores. That would shut them up probably. Unfortunately the first mate was probably hiding somewhere doing the exact same thing they were, and would definitely not be willing to get up just to deal with some squabbling boys.

Why oh why had she chosen this life?

................

A rough hand shook Genya awake. He jolted upright, ready to jump to his station for whatever emergency was happening. He instead saw Shinobu and Mitsuri standing over him, mouthing for him to keep quiet. He looked around in the dark, taking in what was going on. Everyone else was sleeping soundly in their beds, while Zenitsu waited patiently behind the other two girls. They motioned for him to follow, and like an idiot he did, not thinking twice.
One of the rowboats was set down in the water, with a ladder falling down the side of the ship. The other three climbed down into it and Genya (again) followed like an idiot. When they were firmly seated, he finally decided to stop being an idiot.
"What are we doing exactly?"
Mitsuris face brightened. "We're siren hunting!"

"Siren hunting?!" Genya whisper shrieked "Why would we hunt them?! I thought we-"

"Not actual hunting!" Mitsuri giggled, interrupting him. "We're going to look for our little friends!"

"Oh... right." Genyas face flushed with embarrassment. "And your... okay with that?" He turned to Shinobu. It was definitely out of character for her to go along with this, no matter how much she liked that siren.

"I'm backup." She tapped the harpoon strapped to her back.
Ah. There was the Kocho he knew.

"So we're just..... rowing around until we run into something?"

Mitsuri nodded, and Shinobu shook her head.

"We're going a bit away from the ship, but we are not going far enough we can't see our way back." She glared at Mitsuri, though still sporting her usually wicked smile. "They'll have to come us."
