Let's assume for a second, they're not brothers in your AU, or Cousins... Let's assume they're completely unrelated individuals... not blood related, cause I don't wanna think about that Alabama ass shit.
Historically speaking, we don't exactly "like" each other. Yes, were allies. But Canada's extremely reluctant to join in the things we do, historically speaking, a lot of Canadian figures have been wary of Americans. Not to mention the rivalry over the parallel and Oregon border. In most Canadians eyes, were spoiled, ungrateful, forceful, Hamburger eating stuck up jerks. And here in America, were not particularly fond of em either!!
From where I'm from, New England, we still hold this grudge over 1812. We see Canadians as Maple Syrup sucking, British dog ahh, Incompetent, sorry ahh fools. Canada is basically our punching bag, not just ours but our allies to. But, let's get to some historical basis shall we!!! :
Historically speaking, America has been extremely stubborn over the US-Canadian border, threatening war over it numerous times. The Great Lakes, New England, The Cascadia disputes and the Rockies. America's idea of manifest destiny inherently conflicted with Canada's loyalist ideas. Not to mention the war of 1812, where they literally burned the white house.
As for later conflicts, we practically dragged Canada into those. The Vietnam war, The Korean War, etc. Canadians, although seemingly having fun with the w a r c r i m e s did not appreciate being there in general, being extremely hesitant to do so. Not to mention, Canada is basically the punching bag of the American Sphere. "lmao guys look at this Maple syrup drinking loser lmao!!!" Ahh shit, you getting me? Not to mention, Canadians just generally dislike our modern day, AND historical politics. Modern day cause of Liberal - Conservative disputes, and historical because US presidents arent exactly known for being caring for Canadians.
Not to mention the thousands of Canadians being actively discriminated in the past. Overall, they're relation is like a really bitter-at-times friendship.
