The Shithole Called Summer

Prologue

I stepped off the bus and onto the camp ground, which was covered in flowers. Camp Lightnight. I sighed and started walking to the line in front of what I assumed was the consulars cabin. I could see a list on the door. I assumed it had which cabin we were going to be in.

“Hi, how are you!” I heard a voice say from behind me. “Uhm I'm good” I say, turning around to face the girl. She had periwinkle hair, I assumed it was dyed, green eyes, and freckles. “Names Lilli, what's your name?” She said, reaching out for a handshake. A bright smile on her face.

“Maddie, my name's Maddie” I say, taking hold of her hand and shaking it. “Well you're up next” She said, pointing behind me. I turned back around and looked for my name. Cabin 2: Crickets. Most of the other cabins were named after nocturnal creatures.

So I start walking towards the cabins. It didn't take long before Lilli caught up to me. “We're in the same cabin!” she exclaims. “Oh that's nice” I say, opening the cabin door. “I guess we're the first ones here” I say, walking inside, Lilli close behind me.

“I call a top bunk!” I yell and climb onto the top bunk of one of the three bunk beds. Lilli climbs into the bed below me. “Wanna be bunkies?” She asks. “Sure why not” I say, shrugging.

It was only a few minutes later before the rest of our group arrived. Three more boys and another girl. The girl rolled her eyes when she realized she'd have to be bunkies with a boy. One of the boys just scoffed and rolled his eyes.

“I don't know how I got stuck in this summer camp with you losers” He said, throwing his backpack up onto the top bunk. Rude. I thought. The girl threw her back onto the top bunk of the bed next to mine and climbed up, settling down under her covers.

The boy she would have to share with argued about it but eventually gave in and sat down on the bottom bunk. There was silence. Nobody talked, just layed or sat in their beds. At that moment I sensed that this was going to be a very very shitty summer.
