"holy shit guys, i actually bombed that." jj mercer walked out of the theater, met with the sight of his classmates and friends eagerly awaiting to hear how his audition went. he was the first to go, and clearly it hadn't gone well.
"i'm sure that's not true!" tilly paine said, always the optimist among them. the others nodded in agreement, all but vijay, who turned his head away and suddenly became very interested in his phone.
"yeah, you were probably great!" ozzy nguyen said, elbowing his best friend and grinning. "you're, like, a crazy singer."
jj shook his head. "it's a play, but i wish we could sing. and no, it was actually shit. my voice definitely cracked and i forgot my lines."
amber ark made a face. "if you were bad, i'm terrified now. i'm so bad at acting already..." jj patted the girl on the shoulder, gently pushing her towards the theater door. she was already a minute late.
"go on, lynn!! you'll be great!" jj and amber were pretty close, which was definitely a strange duo with jj known for overthinking everything while amber jumped straight into things without a second thought. the two balanced each other out, though, and everyone knew that if you told amber something, jj would know soon enough too.
"fuck my life, dear god..." amber tugged open the theater door, her doc martins clacking against the floor until she stepped into the carpeted room and the door shut behind her.
"alright, and after her is... ollie!" savannah maeve, the stage manager for this year, read from the list of auditions.
"oh god..." ollie grimaced, sharing a look with gavin, who was copying everyone's names down onto a separate piece of paper. the rest of them pretended not to notice gavin's face flush with red when ollie looked away. like they didn't already know gav had a fat crush on him...
"shut up, ollie, everyone knows you're getting romeo," vijay rolled his eyes, but jj kept watching him long enough to see the small smile appear on his face. everyone knew ollie was getting the lead, he'd always been the most invested in the school shows and he absolutely loved shakespeare. they all wanted him to be romeo, anyway. he deserved it!
