You just finished college and got an apartment for a good price and moved in. you starting to get my life together and got a good job. Everything was starting to look up, you felt like you were accomplishing something useful. You always wanted to get away from under my parents wing and you were finally with a stable job to do that.

Once I moved in I got my bedroom set up first, then the living room and everything else.
I met some of my neighbors that were pretty nice but they also were a little jumpy sometimes and were a little wary about me being new here while living alone. Some of them said if I needed anything or felt unsafe to just call them, but I just saw it as them being nice. Though an old lady did give me several warnings to never stay out for too long at night.
It was a little weird to me but shrugged it off as them just thinking I was a child who didn't know better.

they were a little talkative about the apartments and told me a little about the places around that would probably be better than this apartment complex, almost like they were trying to get me to rethink and leave this place. But I simply said I wasn't really interested in leaving this complex as the amount to live here was actually pretty cheap compared to some other places.

[time skip a few weeks later]

I came back from work one night and was exhausted and really just wanted to go to bed.
I walked around in the dark a little already getting used to the placement of furniture in the apartment, and knew I wouldn't really run into anything.
That is until I bumped into something that wasn't exactly a wall but slightly softer and more like a...human... I stumbled back and quickly tapped my hand against the wall looking for a switch and turned on the lights only to see nothing in front of me but the closest door in the end of the hall a few feet away from me. I was definitely awake now and quickly but quietly went to my room.
Quickly looking around cautiously not really sure what I was looking for.
As I saw there wasn't anything out of the ordinary I went and got undressed and got ready for bed.
I almost screamed when I felt something touch my leg but only saw my cat scratching his head against my leg.

I sighed and crouched down and petted his head
"Peanut, gosh you little stinker butt you scared the crap out of me..." I finished my night routine and got in bed and let my cat cuddle with me for the night.

[2:35 am]

I was suddenly woke up for some reason and shifted in bed a bit and opened my eyes slightly it took me a while to process what I was seeing and froze as I started to make out the shadow of a man outside the patio. I tried to keep myself calm and tried to convince myself that I was just hallucinating.
I sat up in my bed slowly and stared at the figure and it was still hard to tell if it was a shadow or a jacket hanging on the wall. I blinked several times and it was suddenly gone.
I covered my mouth and as I realized it was an actual silhouette of a human. I didn't get much sleep that night...

[the next morning]

The sun started to leak out from behind the curtains and you had the bravery to finally get out of the bed. You slowly put your foot on the cold ground and quickly ran into the bathroom. You sat in there trying to keep your mind off of the image of the silhouette you saw at night and washed for face with cold water and brushed your teeth, before you cautiously walked down the hallway with your sleepy cat in your arms like he was a shield of protection. You walked into the kitchen and set your cat down and gave him some food and refilled his bowl of water. "Oh peanut, what do I do now...I still have a few hours until I have to clock into work..."
You made yourself some breakfast and watched a movie as you ate, but you were barely even paying attention to it as you were jumping to any noise you heard in your house. You quickly finished your food and grabbed a blanket and turned yourself into a burrito trying to calm your nerves.
