Ainsley
The chill air of the familiar November wind caressed my body as i continued walking, each step carrying me deeper into the unknown, hoping against hope that I wouldn’t lose my way. The Raveline Forest stretched endlessly before me, its dense trees weaving together like the tangled threads of a maze. The path was barely visible underfoot, swallowed by the roots of ancient trees and overgrown plants. I couldn’t afford to get lost, not here. This forest was as beautiful as it was dangerous, a place where even the strongest of warriors had been known to lose themselves.
Raveline, my kingdom, had many breathtaking spots—the towering mountains with their snow-capped peaks, the shimmering lakes that reflected the stars at night, the endless fields of wildflowers that seemed to stretch on forever. But the forest… the forest was something else entirely. It was wild, untamed, and it held secrets as old as time itself.
The trees in Raveline Forest were massive, their trunks wide enough that it would take several people to wrap their arms around them. Their bark was rough, dark, and covered in moss that glowed faintly under the moonlight. Above, the canopy was so thick that only slivers of light broke through, casting everything in an eerie twilight. The leaves shimmered with a deep emerald hue, though in some places, they seemed to shift to a silvery blue, catching the light in ways that made them look almost enchanted.
The air was thick with the scent of pine, earth, and something else—something ancient and mysterious. Every now and then, a soft breeze would pass through, rustling the leaves and making the trees whisper in a language long forgotten. The wind carried with it the faint sound of distant creatures—some gentle, some… not so gentle.
It wasn’t just the trees that made the forest feel alive. Strange plants bloomed along the path, their petals glowing faintly like lanterns, illuminating the ground with a soft, otherworldly light. Some of them seemed harmless, delicate even, while others were twisted, their thorns sharp and menacing, as if warning intruders to turn back.
The deeper I ventured, the more the forest seemed to change. It was almost as if it could sense me, shifting with my every movement. The ground beneath my feet felt uneven, like it was trying to lead me somewhere—or maybe mislead me. It was easy to see why people compared Raveline Forest to a living maze. Every turn felt unfamiliar, every clearing looked the same as the one before.
Still, as intimidating as it was, there was a strange beauty to it. The way the light played off the trees, the soft hum of life surrounding me, the mystery that seemed to hang in the air—it was as if the forest was a world all its own, separate from the kingdom I had just left behind.
But I had to be careful. Raveline Forest wasn’t just beautiful; it was known for being unforgiving. If I didn’t keep my wits about me, I could easily find myself wandering in circles, lost in its endless maze of trees and shadows.
I took a deep breath, focusing on the faint path ahead of me, i tightened my grip on my pendant, feeling its comforting weight against my skin. It reminded me of why I was doing this, of the promise I made to my mother. I wasn’t just walking into the unknown—I was walking toward something better. Toward a future that wasn’t shrouded in hate and fear.
And with that thought, I pressed forward, determined to find my way through the labyrinth of Raveline Forest.
I was only three years old when my mother died. Too young to fully understand what loss meant, but old enough to feel the emptiness that followed her absence. My father remarried soon after, but it wasn’t for my sake—it was never about providing a mother figure for me. He married Melian for himself, for whatever personal satisfaction he found in her presence. To have sex with that bitch
