Chapter 3

Holly

It's the first game of the season. The family has been waiting for this day and the entire week the house has been buzzing with anticipation for this day. The entire family flew in to support Lowe and Easton. The house is full of Bradford's and Drake's, McConnell's and Tuckers, Staffords and Segler's. I haven't gotten a moment to breathe.

To make the situation even more momentous the league made this first Bradford game for the first Thursday Night game of the season. It is an away game and because the stadium is not ready yet, any home games will be at the University. But for tonight they are in LA.

Lowe insisted that Tempest and I came to the game with the family. It felt strange to be with the family and their entourage and I told her that I would feel better if we weren't in the suite, where we would be more likely to be seen on television, but in the stands, where we can just be one of the crowd.

She agreed, only if we had family with us. Sawyer and Madeline agreed to join us in the stands in the end zone just off the field. He said that it was unlikely that we would get on camera there but we would still get a good chance to see the players close up as they came and went from the locker rooms.

When the teams came out before the game, a few of the players came over and said hello to Sawyer and Madeline. They were excited to be playing in front of such a big crowd and they were surprised to see so much support for the Bradford's team. Our colors filled a good portion of the stadium.

"There's a lot of people willing to support the Bradford's," Madeline told me as the guys went back to warm up. "Georgia and her foundation put a lot of people through college here. Not just athletes, but academia's who wouldn't have been able to afford college otherwise. She was a big supporter of the university and the students there."

That doesn't surprise me. Everything I've heard about Georgia Bradford has been wonderful. She must have been a very gracious and kind woman. It doesn't surprise me that her family has maintained her philanthropy. They do have the same kind of ethics.

"Mommy, there's Mr. Drake!" Tempest tugs at my arm as she spots Bradford on field stretching.

He looks even more built in his uniform. I know the pads make his shoulders look wider and his chest bigger but the muscles look more defined in arms, his legs are hard and defined. His face is so serious. He actually looks angry.

Brady, his cousin, is standing with him as they talk and warm up. Both of them are looking around the stadium at all the people as if they are just as surprised as Tempest was by the crowd size. They shouldn't be surprised. They are Bradford's and this is a big rivalry game.

Tempest jumps up and down when they look in our direction and Brady grins seeing us. Bradford's brows draw together in a deep frown as his cousin walks away from him and comes over to us. Brady holds his arms out and motions for Sawyer to haul Tempest over the railing to him.

Doing as he asks, Sawyer passes my little girl to the receiver much to her delight. I wasn't quite as excited about it. In fact, it worried me. I looked up at the Jumbotron and saw that it was on the announcers talking about the game and not scanning the crowd at the moment.

"Hey cutie! Did you come just to see me play?" Brady asked, getting a squeeze from Tempest.

"We came to see Mr. Drake play. Why are you wearing the same thing?" Tempest asked, pulling at his jersey.

"We're here to support the whole team, Tempest! You know that," I corrected her.

Brady smiled up at us and winked, as if he knew we were here to see Bradford. "We're on the same team. Now I expect you to cheer really loud for me tonight when I score every touchdown, okay?"
