You know the feeling when you achieve something big but can't celebrate it. It's like achieving your dream goal but still not able to fully enjoy it. Take it from me, it's the worst feeling.
"We are looking to forward to work with you. Have a nice day." Ellie, the personal manager of the Queen says.
"You too." I smile automatically and then the line goes dead. My smile drops immediately as I shut down my laptop and fall on my bed.
Why does everything have to be so complicated for me? Can't I have one simple thing without any major drama?
I close my eyes and reassess my whole month. I received the biggest news of my career this month. The royal family of Amsterdam has chosen me as their personal designer for their upcoming wedding. This is once in a lifetime offer and it will make my career flourish. But there is a catch. I have to stay in Amsterdam for a year until the wedding takes place. It's their protocol to assess me and work with me.
Normally any person would love to grab this opportunity and will pack their bags. Unless they has spent better half of their life away from family. Yeah, that's me. I spent more than a decade away from my family and now that I'm back with them, I have to leave again.
The problem is not that my family denies me. They want nothing but happiness for me. But they also don't want me to stay alone in foreign country. Honestly, I also don't want that but what other option do I have? There is one option but I don't want to consider it.
"Aunt Shivi" a soft knock comes from the door. I look to see Kiaan, my nephew standing there. He is such a sweet boy and always knock before coming in.
"Kiaan. Come here" I smile and pat my side.
He comes inside the room and sit beside me. He is exact replica of his father, Arush. His mother really raised him to be a perfect gentleman.
"Can I ask you a question?" he asks
"Sure honeybun."
"Do all girls love pink?"
"No. Every person likes a different colour. Why?" I reply
"The boys in my class were teasing a girl saying she can't like black colour. Girls only love pink."
"That's not a nice thing to say. Did the girl tell the teacher?"
"I did. I told our teacher and then she scolded those boys" he answers proudly
"Well done honeybun. You're such a good boy" I smile kissing his cheek.
"Mama says we should take stand against wrong things." His words are purely innocent but they unintentionally opened something dark in my head. The memories I want to forget emerges forefront, making my skin clammy.
"She is right. You should go play now." I give him wobbly smile, trying to mask my expression. Luckily, he doesn't question further and leave.
My throat starts getting choked and breathing becomes hard for me. I run inside the washroom and lock the door. I quickly start searching for my pills. My eyes fall on the mirror and the vacant eyes that haunts my dream stare back at me.
