Williams Confirms Jasmine Beek as F1's First Female Driver in Decades
This morning, Williams officially announced that the Dutch-Filipina Jasmine Beek will be the new rookie driver for the 2023 season. Over the past few months, there have been theories and rumours about her becoming the first woman on the grid since a few decades, due to her rare and outstanding talent. However, nothing was confirmed until now.
Over the past few years, she has produced outstanding results during her racing career, from driving style to championships. Nobody can say her results haven't made her a future candidate for F1, yet many believed it would take her a few more years to secure an F1 seat.
Here's some information about Jasmine Beek and her career up to now:
Jasmine Mira Beek is a young, Dutch-Filipina woman who has quite an impressive history. 20 years old as of today, Jasmine was born in the Netherlands on 5th of April 2002.
2010 (Age 8): Jasmine starts karting quite late, but shows amazing talent.
2015 (Age 13): Debuts in Formula 4 with a reputation for being smart and fast on track.
2019 (Age 17): Moves up to Formula 3 after a second place in the Formula 4 championship.
2020 (Age 18): Wins the Formula 3 championship after just two years in the series.
2021 (Age 19): Advances to Formula 2 and wins the championship in her rookie season (like Charles Leclerc and George Russell). Becomes a test driver for Williams.
And now she has signed a full-time Formula 1 contract with Williams, and she will be debuting in the upcoming 2023 season.

If we look all the way back at her karting days, and then look through all her races up to her F2 championship, we can see that - even though she might not always have the best car - she's fast. Despite her well-known bubbly personality, which some might misinterpret as soft, she's proven to be a fierce competitor on track. Some have even begun drawing comparisons between her and Max Verstappen for her raw speed and aggressive driving style. It's pretty clear this season is going to be very interesting, with two outstanding rookies (Oscar Piastri included), one of whom is the only woman on the grid for the first time in decades...
