On the day of the school elections, the vibrant banners of St. Petersburg High School adorned the sky as students gathered in hopeful anticipation of their chosen leaders. Little did they know that the bright day would soon darken with unexpected events, shattering their illusions of an ideal outcome.
*********
Rose Harmony, a blonde girl, with glorious brown eyes, and wavy hair, and the sister of one of the most popular students in the school - Rhys Harmony, but Rose wasn't the popular one as others wanted her to be for she was his sister. Rose was a girl of her world, she loved to live her life by her principles. She sat at the dining table listening to the reporter while wearing her socks.
"Today's breaking news, a student of St. Mary school committed suicide because of exam pressure," said the reporter.
"Turn off the TV, Rhys. Already seeing your nervous face is not less frustrating than having to listen to this reporter who seemingly doesn't have any positive news", Said Rose angrily.
Rhys turned towards her and said, " I have the right to be nervous after all the election results are today".
"Relax, these are not some state elections that you are standing for and anyways I know you will win. You are worth it", said Rose, smirking at him.
"Hmmm.....But you feel Justin Mclen is more deserving, don't you", he said, smirking back at her.
"No, I don't", said Rose, looking flushed.
"Well I heard that someone has been passing you notes these days", said Rhys, beaming at her.
"Stop it or I'll make sure you don't win and anyways we are very....different", said Rose.
"So is that the reason? Because as far as I know science, opposites attract", he said, laughing this time.
Rose flung a cushion at him and said "Aren't you getting late for school dear brother, because even I have science theories for you", said Rose threateningly.
"So are you sis, and nope don't wanna hear your theories", said Rhys grabbing his sister and moving out of the room laughing with her.
"Be there during the announcements Rose, I want you to be there right in front of me. Don't forget me after setting your hands on one of the books in the library", he said seriously.
"Heyy, I love books and hate to put them down but I will be there on time", said Rose, smiling.
"You have always been there for me Rhys. I can't forget you even if I want to but don't forget me after being the brand new head boy", she said grinning at him with tears in her eyes.
"I won't", Rhys said, hugging Rose.
"Well, this is a moment", a soft voice said, familiar to Rose.
Crystal Bangs always had her back, her best friend and a sister of her heart, her partner in crime....the list goes on.
Rose and Crystal always looked contrasting. a blonde and a brunette. One had wavy hair and the other curly. their natures were too, one was quiet and the other feisty. they coexisted like day and night.
"Hello Crystal", said Rhys.
"Did I interrupt", asked Crystal nervously, her big black eyes widening, feeling as if she had breached a private moment.
"Nope...I was just buttering my sister so that she doesn't support someone else during the announcements", said Rhys, raising his eyebrow, grinning at Rose as she sighed slightly arching her eyebrows back at him as if to say "Not again".
"Oh, but I don't think your buttering is warranted, maybe someone would approach her soon to convince her, you know, what I am trying to say, Rhys", said Crystal laughing with him.
"Stop it you guys or I am going alone", said Rose, clearly irritated.
"I guess, I'll have to stop here or my friend will choke me to death", said Crystal innocently.
"That she will", said Rhys.
They all walked together towards one of the most prestigious schools- St. Petersburg High School, which was decorated gorgeously for their election results. As the three of them entered the gates people were cheering for their would-be head boy until the celebrations were interrupted.
"Don't live with the misunderstanding that you will win Rhys, Justin is much more popular than you", said a boy with golden hair and cat-like eyes.
Rose sighed, her school always took school elections as if they were the decision of which position a student held, losing in the election was considered as bad as losing your career. There were always two groups, and whichever group lost had to suffer under the leader which they did not wish for, but Rhys had promised her he would be different, he always was.
"Stop it, Caster", said a distant voice, another familiar personality.
Rose hated that voice at that moment, hated herself when she turned, hated when she saw the tall and handsome as ever Justin, with his curly brown hair and dark brown ever teasing eyes.
it was a rumor that THE "Justin Mclen" had been passing her "the" notes (romantic notes which was not the case). She had warned him to tell his friends to not spread fake news but obviously, they had not listened which had resulted in getting teased by her brother this morning.
"Good to see you, Justin", said Rhys smiling at his opponent.
"Good to see you too, Rhys, " said Justin, smiling back. They were best friends until their different mindsets came in between. Rhys wanted that every student in the school should be treated fairly but Justin had always opposed this by saying, this tradition would never change and there would be only chaos. Which resulted in both of them standing for the elections, willing to test their theories.
"Hello, Rose", said Justin, smiling as ever. People started staring and Rose hated one of them was her brother.
"Hi Justin", said Rose, expressionless, emotionless.
"I need to leave, Rhys. Will come back before the announcements start", said Rose while waving at her brother and leaving the crowded place. Crystal trailing behind her like her shadow.
"Rose, you are going to the library again. Can't you take a break for one day from that boring place and spend time with your best friend?" said Crystal, frowning.
"There is always time later, Meet you during the announcements, Crystal", said Rose smiling at her friend.
"You are stalling, and anyways you never know when there is no time left, my friend", said Crystal sadly.
"Hey, from when did Crystal Bangs start spilling philosophies? where is my friend"? Rose laughed, making her friend laugh with her.
Rose entered the library through its familiar large doors. She took her first step and looked around, expecting many students to be roaming and whispering around in groups for studying but found only silence and no one around. There were huge windows at the back of the library that gave an outstanding look and gave some powerful light into the library. She picked a book, it looked old and rusty but she did not care. Rose loved to read stories that made her forget the problems of her life. She loved to get lost in a world that did not belong to her. The pages fluttered due to the winds, a page flew out of the book. Rose caught it in her hands not knowing of the dark knowledge it had. But she made the mistake of reading.
**************
Rose lay there cold....numb, she was not sure if somebody would come. She wished her brother, her friends or someone would come but she was not sure. At Least she was sure of one thing- her brother would win, and finally he would after the hard work he had put in but she would not be alive to see it.
