ASHTON'S POV
My body was dripping sweat as I combatted with Caleb on the training court. Orion worked at punching a stone dummy while Julian sat and watched us three lazily.
Caleb was the only one I trained with after my father. My strength and speed was on a whole other level and Caleb seemed to close with his special strength and speed.
Even Orion and Julian had special abilities too. Orion who had some witches in his ancestry had the power to compel others and manipulate their memory. Julian, who's a goof on a normal day, held exceptional wisdom when it came to matters of defense and war. But it was not these that made me choose them as my officials. It was the connection I felt when I met them.
But today, we did not seem very connected.
My annoyance and frustration built as I unleashed some blows on Caleb. I was not giving my best sight today and he also did not feel so up to it.
“You know what, C? Let's shift." Maybe we would put on a better fight in our wolf forms. I heard Julian scoff at us, I ignored him.
Releasing myself to Silo, I faced Adrien, Caleb's wolf.
They both charged at each other and a fierce tussle began. Before I knew it, Silo was pulling fur and tearing skin. I quickly shifted back before I hurt Caleb any further.
Caleb shifted back and glared at me. “What was that for?" He gruffed.
“Silo was losing control." I said and turned my back.
“You mean you were losing your control?" Julian mumbled under his breath.
That struck a nerve, “What?" I turned to face him.
But Julian feigned innocence, “Nothing. I said nothing."
“I'm not feeling it today." Caleb lay on the ground exhausted.
“Me too." Orion slapped the dummy once more and left it. We sat together.
A mischievous grin played out on Julian's face. “I know what's wrong with y'all and I have the solution."
“Tell us what." I demanded.
“When last did y'all get laid?" He asked in quick response.
“Aww no, Julian. Not now." Caleb whined.
I just shook my head but Julian laughed. “That's the honest problem. It's simply all the pent up energy that is upsetting your body. Y'all need a release."
“Just stop right there." Caleb pulled himself to a sitting position.
I could not sit here and listen to Julian go deeper 'cause hell, he could. “I'm out of here." I went round and shook each one of my guys firmly.
“Are you sure I should not send a lady to your room?" Julian teased again.
I pushed him down playfully. “No, please. Keep your whores to yourself. " I turned away.
“Gladly he would." Caleb laughed.
I walked out to the garden. I breathe in the air, it was kinda chilly. Winter was close.
Training today was not productive. When I woke up this morning, I felt emptier than usual. I fought through a thicket of gloom to get off my bed. I was glad when Caleb called me for training. But all the hours we spent in the training court were frustrating. My wolf felt rattled, seemed on edge. I was anxious about having another episode.
Since I lost Eva, I was not the same. Sometimes, my wolf fell into tantrums and Caleb had to lock me in the cave till I finally found my calm. It usually happened around this winter. That's why I had to send my kids off to my parents' every winter. Diamond already told me last night that she wanted to build the biggest snowman with me this Christmas. I got the message she was trying to pass across - she wanted to spend this winter with me.
A scent I have come to love suddenly swirled around me and a throat cleared gently behind me. I turned to see a smiling Cassandra, but with a new hair color. "Okay." I chuckled as I felt all my anxiety fall off. "Welcome to the blond club."
