"Doctor, we have an emergency in room 319." The nurse said to Matthews Fink.
Fink slowly took his glasses off and sighed before standing from his desk and following her. He stepped into the room down the hall and there was a young man wearing azure blue on the table.
"Doc, doc...you gotta help me." The young man said grabbing the front of Matt's jacket.
"What are your symptoms?" Matt asked
"My stomach...it's killing me. I don't know...I think I'm dying." The young man groaned and Matthew noticed the powdered substance on the man's upper lip.
The nurse left and Dr. Fink immediately realized what it was.
"When was your last bump?" Dr. Fink asked.
The young man looked at Dr. Fink puzzled.
"I think you're having a withdrawal from cocaine. What you're experiencing isn't something we can medically treat you with, son. Speak with the nurse before you leave." Matt said before leaving the room.
"W-Wait! You can't refuse medical treatment to me! I have rights!" He heard the man yell at him, but Matthew went to his office.
His long shift was almost over. Working the emergency unit was exhausting. He was glad to go home to eat his cheese puffs and beer for dinner.
"Oh, Dr. Fink, you have a letter on your desk. I placed it under one of the files." The same passing nurse said.
He sighed before looking up from his paper work.
"Thank you....uh...." He noticed she was wearing a pink nurse's outfit and he cocked his head to the side a little.
"Miss Lee. Zanna Lee. I just transferred from the coronary care unit." He was enamored by her.
"That's...that's...okay. Um..." Dr. Fink was blushing which Zanna enjoyed. She gave a sly smile before making her way down the hall.
Dr. Fink looked down to see a letter sealed in green wax. He broke the seal and opened the letter to read it:
"Dear Dr. Matthew Fink,
You have been selected to win the Rema Lapouse award. It is highly deserved for a man of medicine as yourself. There will be a dinner party in your honor."
Fink blinked slowly as he kept reading.
"Well, okay. Such a weird letter." He said rubbing his chin thoughtfully.
Dr. Fink moved everything from his desk to check his calendar to see if he was free. Ironically he was. He needed a date for this dinner party.
He stood to find Zanna and she was standing at the end of the hall and checking a patient's medical chart...or so he thought.
"Um, Zanna. I...I know we just met, but I was wondering if you would like to be my date to a dinner party I've been invited to." Dr. Fink asked Zanna nervously.
Zanna wasn't looking at him as she was also reading a letter with a pink wax seal on the envelope.
"I...I think I'll take you on that offer. I'm going to a dinner party, too. I guess we'll go to each-"
"Wait...that's the same address I have to go to." He said to the nurse he just met.
They looked at each other as soon as they read the award Zanna was to be receiving.
"A Daisy Award? Oh, come on." Dr. Fink said before scratching his head.
Zanna was staring at him. Something seemed...suspicious about this whole situation and she was going to get to the bottom of it.
