The calming sound of leaves crunching beneath my feet filled the empty air. Walking at this pace, I likely had hours before I reached the home of the individuals I was sent to spy on. I was glad that I had at least a few hours of peace and solace. According to Caius's countless warnings, the Cullens weren't the nicest vampires to be around.

Their diet consisted of purely animals and this, he claimed, made them insufferable. Marcus argued that he had never been around the Cullens for long so I shouldn't take his word for it. Considering the fact that I disliked Caius majorly I was inclined to side with Marcus. But still, I found myself worried that integrating into the clan wouldn't be as easy as I hoped.

Aro and Marcus trained me for this instance. They taught me exactly what to do and what to say to appeal to Carlisle Cullen, the head of the clan. If Carlisle approved of me that was all that mattered. Due to a lack of their knowledge, I didn't know much about the rest of the group aside from their documented abilities.

Jasper was able to influence and feel the emotions of others. How that was similar to what Alec did, was beyond me. I would have to agree with Caius, his abilities proved unimpressive to me. But I wouldn't say that they were completely useless.

Alice could foresee the future. This would make her hard to fool if she could see me coming. Then again, from what I heard, sometimes her visions weren't entirely correct or they were very selective. They were based on the decisions someone made and if she didn't know me surely I would be just fine.

Edward could read minds, without having to touch them like Aro. His ability concerned me the least considering the fact that I was immune to mental powers. Aro, Jane, nor Alec could weasel their way into my mind even if I gave them permission. Why? No one knew. But Marcus figured it was because of my irregularities as a vampire.

I didn't quite understand how my inability to properly stomach blood or stay awake for all of eternity led to my mind being untouchable. But Aro swore that he could read my mind before I was turned.

Not that I would know. I didn't remember anything from my past as a human. And I didn't care to either. From what I was told about my death, my human life didn't seem too great.

I suddenly zoned out of my thoughts, confused that my ears were picking up more footsteps. As far as I knew, I was the only one in the woods. It wasn't surprising that I would encounter someone else, but the fact that they suddenly appeared to be within a hundred feet of me showed that they were super fast. They didn't smell like a human either.

I couldn't focus on whoever the mysterious vampire was for too long before they sped past me. I turned around to find them tackling a bear. I was disgusted to witness them sinking their teeth into the animal. My stomach was just as repulsed as I was and I gagged.

"Emmett!" A blonde-haired man showed up out of nowhere. He looked absolutely horrified by Emmett's behavior. I knew exactly who he was from a glance at him, he was Carlisle Cullen.

"I thought the bear was going to attack her." Emmett released the animal. It's blood smeared all over his face. I felt a bit queasy just looking at him.

"Why would it matter if the bear attacked me?" I questioned. I knew that the bear was behind me, but I figured it was just curious. I didn't exactly seem like other vampires.

"Because... you're..." Emmett studied my eyes. "Oh. I thought... you just smelled like... well not a vampire."

"So you risked exposing yourself to save me?" I asked. The Cullens appeared to be careless. The Volturi would definitely be furious to learn of this instance. Had I been human, the Cullens would be breaking the same law they're already under watch for.
