❛ i'm lost in admiration, could i need you this much ❜

𝑇𝐻𝐴𝑇 𝐿𝐼𝑇𝑇𝐿𝐸 𝐵𝑅𝑂𝑊𝑁 𝑇𝐸𝐷𝐷𝑌 bear had been to hell and back with an owner like Rosetta Lupin. It had been with her since the day she was born, the very first toy this little four-year-old ever received and it remained her most prized possession. Despite all of its imperfections, Rosetta continued to love it.

She was curious as to what was inside it, so Rosetta cut it open to see. She didn't realise she would be hurting the bear since Remus -- her twin brother -- told her that there was candy inside. So, Hope -- her mother -- had stitched it back up. This resulted in the teddy bear having a few scars; one across its nose, the right eye, on its chest, collarbone, and one that wrapped around the side of its waist to its stomach. Still, even after being so beat up, Rosetta continued to drag it along the ground behind her.

Rosetta struggled to sleep ever since her first nightmare. She was terrified of seeing those inner movies play out in such a horrifying way, which resulted in stress-induced insomnia. So, every night, Rosetta would go outside with her lucky teddy bear that she never actually gifted a name to and looked up at the stars, making new constellations.

The front yard of the Lupin house that sat at the top of a tall hill had the best view of the gorgeous night sky. The trees upon said hill were behind the house and any that were in front were on lower land. It was as if Mother Earth had given Rosetta a window of astral creativity, something she greatly appreciated.

Young Rosetta trudged through the tall grass she barely towered over, holding her teddy bear's hand. Its feet dragged along the hard dirt beneath her, taking the journey with her. Rosetta took that teddy bear everywhere, it was all that made her feel safe.

Rosetta heard a few footsteps, but she couldn't tell where they were coming from. She halted her venture and turned around, curious to see if her brother had followed her outside or maybe a small bunny was there to make friends. It was far from the truth.

When Rosetta turned back around, she was suddenly tackled to the ground by a small werewolf barely bigger than her, but far stronger. She screamed and dropped her teddy bear, her only sense of security. She tried to protect herself by pushing the werewolf, but it towered over it, slashing her face viciously with its sharp claws. It was clearly uncoordinated, maybe even a new werewolf, but it was lethal nonetheless.

Rosetta was able to shove the werewolf off of her with the last parcel of strength she had in her body. She grabbed her teddy bear before she hurried off as fast as her little legs could take her. Her instinct was to go back to her house, isolated in the woods by a small lake, but she, a four-year-old, was not going to outrun a bloodthirsty creature.

It didn't take long for the werewolf to get her to the ground again and continue its torture. Its teeth dug into her leg to drag her along the grass, bringing her to a safe location for the werewolf where it could devour and harm. Rosetta screamed her lungs out, it was something straight out of a horror movie. She was fortunate that her father had such an instinct to protect her. Rosetta was always her father's favourite while Remus remained their mother's.

Lyall Lupin, the wizarding half of the Halfblood couple, rushed outside with his wand pointed straight at the werewolf. He exclaimed, "Stupefy!"

A spark shot out of the end of his wand and sent the werewolf flying back, away from his daughter. Lyall wasted no time in rushing to the sobbing girl, scooping her up into his arms and holding her close. Lyall let the little girl cry into his shoulder as her face, chest, and leg bled out. He wanted to heal her as soon as possible, but he needed to make sure that this creature was gone.

Hope, who had too heard the commotion coming from outside, rushed to her husband and checked on her daughter, taking her from Lyall and sitting her on her hip. "Honey, you're alright. It's okay, you're safe now."

Lyall kneeled down and grabbed the brown teddy bear, handing it to Hope so that their child could feel a sense of comfort in her horrific state. Lyall looked on into the grass where the werewolf had landed, but he couldn't see anything.

"Whoever's out there, you show yourself!" Lyall yelled, wanting to know what monster, what horrible devil tried to murder his daughter, but the only answer to his demand was the sound of crying; familiar crying. Curious, Lyall walked forward with caution, still holding his wand out for protection, which he didn't need. What Lyall was met with was the young brunette boy curled up in a ball, crying into the dirt.

"Remus?"

"I'm so sorry..." Remus sobbed, the pain he felt throughout his body at his first full moon shift unbearable and the ache in his heart from hurting his sister being the worst torture imaginable. Lyall could not possibly comprehend how his son could have possibly become a werewolf, but it was horrifying to know that not only Remus had to endure this torture, but Rosetta did too.
